the first 4 look good. from there it's all mysterious to me. That's where it could get interesting for the cards. what if the texans come knocking if quinn drops. Do you think this OT would be a risk? will jarrett fall that far? I'd love to have him as owens departs.

I like it for the most part. Only things I dont agree with are that:

1) The Vikings have great run defense, and great tackles, what they need is an improved pass rush. If they go defense with their first and Adams is gone I expect them to take J. Anderson.

2) While I dont disagree with the picks 1-14, I just dont see Laron Landry falling to 15.

3) I will be shocked if Okoye falls to 18. Many scouts have him ranked ahead of Branch (I think that Kiper is one of them).

I also noticed that R. Kalil and J. Staley are left out, I wonder if either will last to our 2nd round spot. If we cant get Thomas or Brown we would be hardpressed not to take Staley in the 2nd if he is available.

Do you think this OT would be a risk?
Personally, I think it's a huge risk. I'm not sold on Thomas as the "sure thing," but the Cards have put themselves in a position where they HAVE to take a tackle in the first round, IMO. If he's gone and Quinn or Peterson is there and they can trade down to get Brown a few picks later, I'd be fine with that.

I think he will (obviously ;)).

well i guess any 1st pick can be risky, but the cards shouldn't put themselves in the position where they have to take him to plug a hole(if he isn't a top 5 guy).
did jarrett run the 40 bad or somethin?

Not that I know of. But ahead of him I have Johnson (duh), Ginn (because of Hester's impact for the Bears this year I think he'll go before he should) and Sydney Rice (a very tall, very fast WR with very good hands who is a rising commodity). I think it says less about Jarrett than it does about the ability the other WRs and the current flavor-of-the-moment in the NFL.

Here's my worry... If Detroit goes Joe Thomas and Quinn's available at the Cards pick. If Miami calls and asked for a trade, Do the Cards do the trade? Houston may take Levi the pick before.

1. Oakland Raiders – JeMarcus Russell, QB
2. Detroit Lions – Joe Thomas, OT
3. Cleveland Browns – Adrian Peterson, RB
4. Tampa Bay Bucs – Calvin Johnson, WR

5. Arizona Cardinals – Quinn still available!

6. Washington Redskins – Gaines Adams, DE
7. Minnesota Vikings – Alan Branch, CT
8. Houston Texans – Levi Brown, OT
9. Miami Dolphins – Greg Olsen, TE

My other question about the draft would be : If both QBs go 1 & 2 and Cleveland takes Joe Thomas, leaving the Cards with A.Peterson. Do the Cards draft AP? If not, who might want to trade up? If Houston wants to trade up, then the Cards can probably get Levi.

Last Question. Do the Cards want Levi? He's kind of like Big, unmotovated at times.

Yes we trade down and if Brown is not there then we could get Willis and pick up a tackle in round 2 (Ugoh or Staley) ... that way we address 2 areas of concern and still get more picks ...

Jason/Pariah:

Can you throw us a bone and gives us your 2nd round pick for us .. ??
lol. No. (not because I don't want to...but because it'd be even more of a guess than this one).

Although, if the first round pans out like this, I would hope the Cards would take the best LB ono the board unless someone else is just screaming to be picked (maybe a CB?).

I'd hope not. We're in a real bind for a LT. As uncomfortable as it is to draft for need, that's the result of letting Big go too early, IMO.
My other question about the draft would be : If both QBs go 1 & 2 and Cleveland takes Joe Thomas, leaving the Cards with A.Peterson. Do the Cards draft AP?
I almost like this situation better--a player you can't pass on waiting for you after Thomas is gone.

I'd draft Peterson and look for Ugoh or Staley in the second.
Last Question. Do the Cards want Levi? He's kind of like Big, unmotovated at times.
If Thomas and Peterson are gone, I'd rather see the Cards reach for him than trade with Miami and possibly miss out on him.

JMHO, though I know it's likely unpopular.

Alright, I've never noticed half of those guys, at least. But I have seen Okoye and I agree with cardsfnmd, I doubt he lasts till 18.

The problem is, is he really 19? I lived in Nigeria in 1966, 67 and I doubt they've suddenly started keeping birth records in the 80's.

He is 19. There is a feature article on him in this weeks Sporting News. It covers his background, parents, schooling, etc. Its worth the read. He got a degree in psychology from Louisville in 3 1/2 years. He also skipped grades in elementary school. He will be the youngest NFL player ever on a roster come this fall. If you read the article you would believe that he is only 19.

I've never seen a mock draft where I disagreed with just about every single selection before.:)

BTW, there's a snowball's chance in h-e-double hockey sticks that the Rams would pass on DE Adam Carriker for yet another WR.

He wanted me to post this here.
1. Oakland Raiders – JeMarcus Russell, QB

This looks like the standard pick but i dissagree with it. I think Calvin Johnson is too good to pass and from what i have heard, the Raiders was not quite satisfied with Russell during the combine (His weight and the interviews). I think Raiders should try to fill the quarterback need through a trade.

2. Detroit Lions – Brady Quinn, QB
I think this would be an okay pick. Calvin Johnson should be another possibility.

3. Cleveland Browns – Adrian Peterson, RB
No-brainer.

4. Tampa Bay Bucs – Calvin Johnson, WR
If he is there this will be a no-brainer too. But as i mentioned before i expect Raiders to pick this guy.

5. Arizona Cardinals – Joe Thomas, OT
No-brainer if he is there.

6. Washington Redskins – Gaines Adams, DE
Great pick.

7. Minnesota Vikings – Alan Branch, CT
I agree with cardsfanmd on this one. IF the Vikings go defense Jamal Anderson will be the pick.

8. Houston Texans – Levi Brown, OT
I think their prioritees is going to be: 1) QB 2) DL 3) Safety. Since the two quarterbacks is gone too early in this mock i see the Texans pick Alan Branch, Okoye or LaRon Landry

9. Miami Dolphins – Greg Olsen, TE
Greg Olsen at #9? I didn't see that comming. Great combine and obviously the best tight end in this years draft, but that would still be a hugh reach IMO. Okoye or Branch would be the pick here.

10. Atlanta Falcons – Reggie Nelson, S
Reggie Nelson before Landry? I don't think anyone will be that stupid.

11. San Francisco 49ers – Jamal Anderson, DE
Great pick if he is still on the board. Carricker or a receiver would be another possibility.

12. Buffalo Bills – Leon Hall, CB
I can't see Bills pass Patrick Willis who would be BPA and fill out a need.

13. St. Louis Rams – Ted Ginn, Jr, WR
I really can't see Rams pick a Wide receiver.

14. Carolina Panthers – Adam Carriker, DE
I like this pick.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers – LeRon Landry, S
If he is still on board i don't think anyone could pass this guy at #15 but i really don't see him be availible here.

16. Green Bay Packers – Marshawn Lynch, RB
I have to admit this seems like the most likely scenario but I would much rather see us (Packers) pick Meachem or Ginn here and take Hunt, Bush or Pittman in the second round.

17. Jacksonville Jaguars – Darrelle Revis, CB
I don't dissagree on this one even though i think it is a small reach.

18. Cincinnati Bengals – Amobi Okoye, DT
19. Tennessee Titans – Patrick Willis, LB

I think both of them will be gone much earlier than this.

20. New York Giants – Justin Blalock, OG
Good pick. They may pick a cornerback though.

21. Denver Broncos – Charles Johnson, DE
Good pick.

22. Dallas Cowboys – Sidney Rice, WR
I am pretty sure this guy will not be the third receiver taken. Receiver is not that big of a reach for Cowboys and Rice don't have high enough value.

23. Kansas City Chiefs – Dwayne Jarrett, WR
Great pick.

24. New England Patriots (from Seattle) – Aaron Ross, CB
Great pick.

25. New York Jets – Jarvis Moss, DE
Not a bad pick.

26. Philadelphia Eagles – Dwayne Bowe, WR
Need and good value. Great pick.

27. New Orleans Saints – Michael Griffin, S
I am beginning to repeating myself. Great pick.

28. New England Patriots – Zach Miller, TE
A reach. Could be their pick though.

29. Baltimore Ravens – Anthony Spencer, DE
I LOVE this pick! I had him to the Ravens in my november/december mock but at that time many saw it as a hugh reach. I am just glad to see anyone else having this pick too.

30. San Diego Chargers – Robert Meecham, WR
No-brainer if he is still on board. But i think it is highly doubtfull he will be that.

31. Chicago Bears – Lawrence Timmons, LB
I like this pick.

32. Indianapolis Colts – Chris Houston, CB
Great pick.

I think the perfect draft for the Cards would be:
1-Joe Thomas
2-Anthony Spencer
3-Rufus Alexander/Fred Bennett

Here are the players that I think that we can justify taking at the 5 spot...
1-Joe Thomas
2-Gaines Adams
3-Calvin Johnson
4-Adrian Peterson

Now, I am not saying that we should take Calvin Johnson, but I am saying that we can't stay at the 5 spot and NOT take him. In that situation, you either grab him or you trade back.

Here are the other players that we should consider in round 1 but NOT at 5.
1-Laron Landry
2-Levi Brown
3-Jamaal Anderson
4-Reggie Nelson
5-Patrick Willis

These guys are players that fill needs but, other than Landry, are more high risk/high reward. We would fill needs by drafting these guys but we also should move back if we are to take them.

My top 5 based on need...
1-Joe Thomas
2-Gaines Adams
3-Laron Landry
4-Levi Brown
5-Jamaal Anderson

No Way. He has more upside than Branch AND maybe Anderson, IMO.

That's interesting. Were you in the peace corps?

They're probobly going by his parents primitive memories of the birth. Maybe he's really 18! :D

Doing a mock is tough because we don't know what the guys ahead of us will do. So if I'm Graves, here's how I set up the Cards' draft.

Three strong possibilities:

1. Joe Thomas drops to us. We nab him.

2. Joe Thomas doesn't drop to us so we draft Levi Brown at #5.

3. Joe Thomas doesn't drop to us but someone in the Top 9 wants to trade up with us (most likely because Quinn is still there and they want him).

If we set our draft up this way, we know our top pick will be for an offensive tackle. We can then address our other priorities more in line with Best Available Athlete at a position of need.

Using the ESPN Scouts Inc. draft board (because the Sporting News War Room lamely pegs Levi Brown as 3rd round material), our 7 round draft could wind up as follows:

1. Offensive Tackle (either Thomas or Brown

2. Jon Beason OLB Miami (If we pick up a high - mid 2nd rounder in a trade, we could also wind up with Brian Leonard RB/FB Rutgers or possibly Chris Houston CB Arkansas, but more likely Justin Blalock G-T Texas - or perhaps we'd take Houston first and then either Beason or Poluszni later in the round - depending on who was available)

3. Matt Spaeth TE Minn.

4. Jason Hill WR WSU

5; Sabby Piscatelli S/OLB Ore. St

6. No pick

7. Hope that LeRon McClain FB Ala (pegged as a 6th rounder) falls here. Otherwise, Kasey Studdard G Texas (also pegged as a 6th rounder) or Lyle Sendlein C Texas
