Jurecki this morning mentioned that parking is likely going to be a problem at the new stadium.

The reason is that at an estimated 3 persons per vehicle, the stadium is going to have to accomodate 2500 vehicles (7500 people) in an off site lot about a mile away.

The problem is that this is supposed to be a shuttle lot, but it looks like the contract has to be re-bid, and most likely will not be done in time for the preseason. Meaning, if you don't get a space, you are going to have to walk over a mile.

These estimates are based on 3 people/vehicle, and I am curious if that is a realistic estimate. How many total people (including the driver) share a vehicle when you go to the games? If you see someone that you carpool with has already voted, please don't vote again to avoid double-counting.

So?? MJ is making something out of nothing again. How far was the walk from Lot D to the stadium?? And, we'll get to sit in the nice AC for 4 hours instead of giving myself Melanoma.

Exactly!!! Traffic/Parking can't possibly be any worse than it was/is at Sun Devil Stadium. I'll gladly suffer for this...

that's just those assclowns stirring the pot - i heard that segment - i couldn't get on the air, but i would have told them about my dad taking me to the Suns games at the Madhouse in the 70's and him parking up Grand Avenue because he wanted to save the parking fee - 3 kids, blue collar - that 10 minute walk didn't hurt.
Or the last 5 years - parking at the Rural/Rio Salado lot - that was a good 3/4 mile hike - big deal.
Those guys are pansies.
As long as there's enough parking for handicapped the able bodied should not whine.
How about getting there earlier than the national anthem?

Did he mention that they are paving the rest of Westgate for parking right now?

Parking to the west, parking to the north by the Coyotes stadium, parking to the east, (where, if you ever went to a "Yotes" game this year was nothing but a big dust pan.

And if you're smart, and don't have a parking pass, you'll spend half of that strenuous walk taking in a few beers and maybe a burger at the new Gordon Bierch (sp).

Guess they have to fill their show with some bullcr@p chatter.

Yeah, this was more like what I was expecting. It looks like the numbers are coming in averaging 2.5 persons per vehicle.

This means that:

14000 primary spaces * 2.5 = 35000 fans in primary

7500 secondary spaces * 2.5 = 18750 in secondary.

So 63000 capacity - 53750 is about 9250 in the boonies.

I know people don't mind walks, but parking is going to be very tight.

One thing I don't understand is why in cities like San Francisco and Denver they have huge bus service from park and rides that bus fans in so you don't have to park. Would be nice if the Cards did something like this.

Not by Sept. 10th, then? I'm asking for very specific personal reasons, obviously. I need to get from mt hotel to the game.:(

No that was my whole question about city buses and shuttles and whatnot. Looks like that is not on the table.

I'm sure someone here can pick you up and drop you off.

I'll start begging closer to the game. There's a chance I might be going with a local.

Wow, up to 2.65 average. After 30 data points it starts to become significant. Still much less than the 3 person/car average touted, though. That estimate just sounded way high to me.

I had season tickets so I had a special pass, but towards the end of the year, even I had to park out in the dirt lot. :(

I was patient because I knew what was going on, but it was tough because my little car wasn't designed for off-roading.

For Cardinal games, I'm not so worried about parking close, but getting a spot where it will be relatively easy to get out after the game.

I might be able to swing and pick you up. You'd have to be willing to go about 3 hours early...I plan to tailgate.

At SDS, there was always a significant number of people who took buses into the games. There are bars/restaurants all over town that bus people in for a small fee in order to keep them at the bar/restaurant after the game. So while the 3 person per car stat may not keep up, there will be more than just a few buses loaded with dozens of people per vehicle as well.

You might have to be willing to pick me up more than three hours early...I plan to tailgate harder than you.

I might take you up on it; I'll let you know as the time comes.

From where? Granted I may not be up to date and the last time I was in that part of town was six months ago. But north of the stadium is the Coyotes stadium, east of the stadium is residential. Not sure of the south or what is on the west side of the freeway, but it does not have the restaraunt/bar density of Tempe.

In 2-4 years, that area is going to be booming, but I don't see it today.

From everywhere, of course. The first year the Cards were in town, I picked up a bus from a bar at Paradise Valley Mall. Call your local sports bar, and see if they have something in mind.
