Parson sounds pretty sharp tonight. For those who have seen him in person, is there any chance for him to unseat McCown, or is it more of a result of playing 3rd string players?

Ive said it since the dallas game that parsons should be #2. He has played well every time he has gone out there.

I watched Parsons play at NAU, but I'll be the first to admit that I thought they should cut him and pick-up Akili Smith. He looked good, and as an NAU alunmi, I'm stoked! He plays good in domes, hopefully he can do it outside!

One half of the last preseason game is not going to make any difference one way or the other. Other than maybe just solidify his spot on the roster.

It certainly isn't going to suddenly move him up the depth chart.

Skorp and some others have said that Parsons looked better than mccown in training camp in flagstaff..Parsons looked better in flag last year than both mccown and plummer IMO....This season I was not sure he had taken a step forward - but I have a question - when was the last time a cardinals qb (Preseason or regular season) had a run of passes like parsons had tonight..maybe jake did in the 4th quarter against someone when we were behind by 3 touchdowns...not sure of the stats qb rating for parsons - but it may have been the highest we have had in awile for a qb.

Parsons Wow!!

Parsons came in a cool cat and just made plays including two touchdowns! I say make him the back up and move McCown to third. He was poised and looked like a vet out there. I thought he outplayed Josh last year also. He looked like the perfect pocket passer tonight. Good to have a great pre-season again. Everyone says it doesn't make any difference, but tell that to the team!! Way to go. I hope Lucas will be allright.

Parson did a great job. The big plus is that the rest of the players like him - he is a positive for morale boosting.
But, he was playing against the Minnesota scrubs. Minnesota's Offense and Defense did not look good in the 2nd half. That's probably going to hurt them in the long run - they just do not have the reserves!
We do have reserves and that will be a plus for our being in the plus column this year!

Parsons played great, but I don't think this will change a thing. Mac stuck to his guns with Dave Brown and he had McCown as number 2 last year when he was much worse than this year. When it comes to QB's, I just don't see eye-to-eye with Mac.

Hope we don't need to find out if he's right or not.

Ditto! Even though he was playing against 3rd stringers, he was really making very good decisions. McCown had decent game as well but he made some poor decision and should have been picked off when he overthrew his receiver into three Minesota players one of them had it in his hands and dropped it.

Actually I believe that you have that backwards ... people were saying that McCown looked great in practice and Parsons looked horrible.

No one, certainly not me anyway, is saying Parsons played poorly.
He did play great.
I'm glad to see it, that's very encouraging.

But the point I'm simply trying to make, and some of you just seem to keep refusing to acknowledge, is that is was only
ONE HALF OF ONE PRE SEASON GAME.

I couldn't be happier about him playing as well as he did.
But, as has been pointed out before, so far this year, no one has been touting how great he looked. . . until tonight.

To think that this great 1/2 a ballgame is going to significantly change anything right now, is indeed delusional.

Why is it that some people have to pidgeon-hole everything into absolute black/white, good/bad...and that because Parsons played well Josh sucked. Gawd how simplistic and childish.

So now we still have 2 promising young QB's . . . nothing really new. but it is reassuring.

Parsons put the ball in the endzone. He orchestrated long scoring drives and was 6 for 6 on one of them. Against 3rd stringers or not, Parsons showed field generalship. Give him a European team for a season and this kid will be good. Mcown is a terrific athlete, but we need a QB, not an athlete.

Did someone just fart?

Anyway, Parsons did exactly what I was hoping McCown would do. How excited would people be about McCown if he put it together like Parsons did last night?

It's just diarrhea of the mouth! That guy can't end a post without some sort of demeaning remark.

If I recall right, Parsons and McNown dueled it out with each other their last year of college. NAU lost, ending their season. Both put up great numbers. Parsons played for NAU, making him an unknown, but does that really mean he's worse than McNown?

Tango:

I'll acknowledge that it was only the second half of a preseason game. But it was also Parsons' most-recent extended appearance on a football field, against an opposing team. And he looked like a young player for whom the lights have just come on, in a big way.

He didn't just have a good series, or make a couple of good throws. He played almost flawlessly for two quarters, scoring three touchdowns and bringing his team from behind twice. Great decisions. Accurate throws, with both strength and touch behind them. A surprising willingness to run when necessary.

I'm not suggesting that Parsons be elevated over McCown on the basis of two quarters of play. But I think, based on what I saw, that Parsons may have been as big a UDFA steal as Damien Anderson was. And I think last night may have been the first real glimpse of that potential.

BTW, you really oughta avoid the disparaging comments. No need to call people "delusional" just because you think they've gone overboard on a player.

I think the difference is--

those of us who go up to camp and have seen them up close and personal have had the chance to judge the changes. Not being simplistic or childish at all just the facts that he stepped in there last night with no dancing feet and calmly took them down the field was very impressive. He also showed his toughness. There is a difference when you just watch them once in awhile on the TV.

Well put. IMO, McCown improved a lot this offseason but Parsons had an accuracy problem in camp.

Then, in the preseason, McCown showed game to game improvement and Parsons showed he's more mentally mature and is a leader.

These guys have upside. I say we stick with them.

With his physical abilty, if McCown puts it all together could he be a top QB in the league?

Oran, you are on the money they closed out their college career facing each other.

Keep in mind, young quarterbacks tend to improve in spurts, like race horses. McCown definitely has the best tool set, but Parsons has been a winner before and there's more to succeeding in then NFL than tools. It wouldn't shock me to see Parsons become the better player. Both have been kept, because they actually do have a chance to make it.

Parsons came in and looked natural. He had a beautiful, light, touch on his passes. He knew where the receivers were supposed to be. Granted, that first TD run was one of the sloppiest I've ever seen but damn if it didn't work. Get this guy a long term contract!

P.S. - what is his contract as of now, anyway?

My apologies WC, to you and some of the other reasonable posters here.

They say to effectively communicate with most people, you gave to go to THEIR level of comprehension.
The boards seems to have been over run with so many immature
kibitzers that sometimes I do find myself getting caught up in their "maya" as the Buddists would say.

I certainly didn't mean to demean those people who have been around, make what I consider reasonable posts (whether I agree with them or not) and express their opinion.

Neither do I want to get badgered and pidgeon-holed into what I consider a totally ridiculous debate over whether Parsons is suddenly the better QB than McCown and McCown is suddenly a loser just because Parsons had a great second half of a ballgame.

I want them both here, and over the course of this year and next one, if not both, to become great QB's. Each one will have good days and bad days. I do indeed consider it very immature to get caught up in a day-to-day battle over which one is a star and which one sucks....which indeed has been happening with some.
