Cardinals | Could Move Down? - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
11:28 PT: Len Pasquarelli reports for ESPN.com the Arizona Cardinals, in their search for quantity over quality, are trying to deal back from their current No. 6 spot in the first round of the April NFL Draft. If Arizona State DE Terrell Suggs were available at that slot they may stay put.

Well, this makes sense. Not toooooooooooo far down though. Still need an impact defender.

I like our options at #6, but would move down a few spots for a 3rd or 4th pick. If somebody falls in love with a playr we miht even get a second.

I would like to speculate about what the Cardinals could get for the #6 spot, but it would be almost impossible to do until draft day and we would know who would be left after the 1st 5 picks. For example: would Oakland give up both #1's (#s31 & #32 I believe, if Leftwich were still available? (Gannon is getting old). Man so many scenarios that it is mind boggling. I personally only would trade down if Suggs & Newman were gone at #6.

I'm drooling over Oakland's 2 #1's! With they're limited cap space, would they really wanna move up?

I agree, until the Cardinals are on the clock we will not know the trade value of their pick. However I think that someone will fall to #6 that may intice other teams to move up.

I would be happy to move down a couple of slots if it means an extra second rounder. However I would like to stay in the top 13.

The Cardinals will definitely not trade this pick until Draft Day if they trade it at all, because I'm sure they'll want to sit there and see if by any chance Suggs or Rogers or someone falls to them, however unlikely that is.

If we could wrangle Oakland's two #1s, I would be so happy.

It's going to be in the top 13, because it's the #13 they're going to trade down to. The Jets only have two major needs - DT and WR. There are two elite players at each position (Kennedy, Robertson, Rogers & Johnson) and two will be available at #6 (and most likely one at each position).

It's just seems so natural that the Jets are going to trade up IMO. The question is the price? Their 2nd?, the 3rd?, 3rd+4th?

It would take a heck of a lot more than the last two picks in the first round to move from 6. #6 still has players who can star. 31 & 32 are ok players that are a heck of a lot less likely to help. We have enough role players. We need difference makers.

The Jets would be a little more interesting to me. Bills a far second. (Bill need bodies, probably won't trade both picks) Jet may fall in love with a guy like Johnson and may pull the trigger.

Damn, you type faster than me. Trading out of 6 with anything less than 2 #1 doesn't make sense to me. We don't draft well in round 2-4 ANYWAY!!!! Passing on Newman, Kennedy or Robertson for an extra second lowers the talent of he team IMO.

I believe the Jets were quoted in KFFL as being interested in packaging their two #1's to trade up.

Hey, I'd love to have the Jets 2 #1's but I don't think it's gonna happen. Going back to last year would you have traded Ryan Simms (#6) for any of the following 2?
Robert Thomas (ILB)
Patrick Ramsey (QB)
Jabar Gaffney (WR)
Deshaun Foster (RB)
Kalimba Edwards (DE)
They were chosen from the 31st pick down. What kind of position would we be in today if we had Gaffney & Edwards? I would take the Raiders 2 #1's in a friggin heartbeat!

I don't disagree, but it depends how you look at it. There's no doubt that this team's biggest need is DE. If Suggs is gone at #6 and they really want to address that position, why not trade to #13 and take the #2 DE (McDougal) for an extra 2nd rounder.

The draft is extremely deep at both WR and DT and both positions happens to be a "need-position" for the Cards (along with CB and possible QB), so they can pick up really good quality at both positions in the 2nd.

you would never know how a trade down would turnot until a couple years later. I am not two thrilled to trading down into the #30 or lower. I would rather have a number 11 or 12 and a second rounder.

I just have a hard time believing that anybody is gonna give up the #13 & a second rounder to get #6, someone really special is gonna have to drop to that spot. Would I rather have a 13 and a 2nd rounder, HELL YES, I was trying to be realistic but hey, as Jurecki says "dreamins free".

Not every team would do this, but there are some teams who would. For example: a team desperate to sign a franchise QB or a team that feels it's only a Johnson, Newman or Robertson away from winning a championship.

NFL teams have a chart that charts the value of each and every pick. They use it to judge if they are losing value by a trade, keeping value equal, or gaining value.

For the Cards to trade, the Jets better give AT LEAST 2 #1s. I might be happy if the did a trade like: 13th pick+ 2 2nd rounders.

If we're waiting on Suggs at #6, then we (MGT)really are crazy!!!! He'll be long gone by then. If we're not gonna be aggressive in his pursuit then we should trade down. We've had the same obvious weakness for 2 seasons now, Pass Rush. Suggs IMO is within our reach but we've got to make a play!!!! It actually is pretty sad that as of right now our starting DE are still Wakefield & KVB:rolleyes: I don't know about you guys ,,,,but I'm tired of the same damn song, Sunday after Sunday

One problem: If we want to trade down, we can't act now. We have to wait until the draft to not tip our hand. We have to make teams that want to trade up sweat, so that we get the maximum amount from any trade. If we pull a trade now, we won't get as much out of it.

Oh Krang I Agree.... All transactions need to be made on draft day.... Once Chris Berman says the Bengals are on the clock....... We should be on the phones, wheelin & dealin if Suggs is the man we're targeting. Although Atlanta pulled the trigger a couple days before the draft after San Diego felt they would not be able to agree on a contract with Michael Vick. I would be excited, because in my 25 plus years as a Cards fan I don't ever remember us having the first pick overall in the Draft....yeah we've had plenty of # 2's & 3's though:rolleyes: the unfortunate benefits of historically losing:mad:

I've said before that I think there is going to be a lot of wheeling and dealing at the beginning of the draft. Much more than usual. There seems to be 2 franchise QB's in the top 10 of the draft: Palmer and Leftwich. 2 months ago, I bet most people figured the Bengals and the Bears would take these guys. Now, it doesn't look like that will happen. The Bears signed QB K Stewart and the Bengals look to give Kitna another chance. When Palmer and Leftwich are still around after the 5th pick, teams drafting later will start getting antsy. The trading frenzy begins when teams who never dreamed they would be able to draft a certain player all of a sudden realize that maybe they can. We have to wait until draft day. When Palmer and Leftwich drop and DE Suggs is gone, the Cardinals should be able to trade down. But you never want to drop out of the top 15.

Uh Yes! The Jets have the 13th and 22nd picks.

Last year from 13-21..these players were available:
13 Donte Stallworth
17 Phillip Buchanon

22-31:

24 Ed Reed
25 Charles Grant

I would trade #6 today for Donte Stallworth and Charles Grant.
