Our version of Duck Dynasty - Card Dine-Nasty

Man I hope BA develops our run game as a primary weapon rather than a diversion for our 4.25 WR's left on his and Keim's roster- were a hamstring away from disaster at WR and using PP as WR- He is is the only player left from a good 2ndary last year-

IN BA I HOPE!

Mendenhall, 26, who is 21 months removed from his ACL tear, dealt with minor knee problems in camp but he's "more than ready" now, according to Arians. Mendenhall averaged 6.1 yards per carry in two preseason games.
He'll start against the Rams and get the bulk of the carries, with Ryan Williams mixed in. However, Arizona is expected to go pass-happy this year so don't look for Mendenhall to get 20-plus touches.

And........ he's back!

I've been trying to tell him for 3 yrs now this isn't 1970. His favorite HCs ever have to be Darrell Royal & Barry Switzer when they ran the wishbone. One of these day he's going to understand that to score, you have to pass & that points come in the passing game...or not! :mulli:

And Levi, Leenart & Beanie are elite too ;)

Arians better get that running game going or he's going to be Palmer killed behind this OLine. Especially, if he wants him to hold the ball longer for deeper routes.

Anybody else notice that Palmer hardly got touched last year in Oakland when compared to the beating taken by Cardinals QBs?

The Cards Oline last year was beyond bad. The Raiders Oline was not that far behind them, especially the last half of the year.

Palmer knows how to hit a hot route and dump the ball of so he doesn't take needless hits like Kolb/Bones/Lindley.

Arians isn't going to commit to the running game. It's the reason he got "retired" in Pittsburgh. With a rookie QB in Indy last year, he passed on like 69% of offensive snaps.

Carson Palmer was 6th in QB hits last year (53) and tied for 7th in QB knockdowns (78). Still well less than the 122 knockdowns (Sacks + QB Hits) that Andrew Luck suffered last year.

Suffered at the hands of Bruce Arians.

Interestingly, though, Andrew Luck was the top-ranked passer in dropoff when passing under pressure. Carson Palmer was 4th.

.

Yep

Which is another reason I don't u dear stand why we kept 5 RBs on the roster.
While coaching the Stealers & Colts, those QBs were among the tops in the NFL at being hit by pass rushers. Anyone thinking BA is gonna change his ways IMO is delusional.

Good point. I'd say the Cards QBs, especially Kolb, were responsible for half the sacks the last two years.

Max Hall was responsible for all the sacks in 2010. :p

Quoting Duck Dynasty should get you some time in the corner to think about what you have just done.

Agree that BA isn't going to change his stripes. There's no way Palmer survives a beating like Luck took last year.

(Edit: had to make a correction, my reading comprehension sucks before my first pot of coffee)

Phil or SI

Now come on now- who would you rather play like Phil or Si?
Happy Happy Happy? or
I got my quacker stuck in the toaster?

Fact is we can't field a 5 WR set without PP on offense and our TE's look like duck poo- and we plan to pass like our hair is on fire!

Uncle SI is looking a lil wise right now! at least Whiz aint kissing frogs- hoping they turn into NFL players this year.

I don't notice any BA pet players yet? Honey Badger has earned part time play- but I don't trust him to hold up in every down pass protection or for a whole NFL season.

We have a whole lot of WTF factor going into St Louis.

I do think that we will pass a lot more than we run (which is the norm for most teams in the NFL), but we were actually pretty balanced in pass vs. run in the preseason. Outside of the San Diego game, we were close to 50/50 split in each game.

We're a bad team, running often won't change that.

PFO and PFF stress each year that high rushing-yard totals are more an outgrowth of the performances of winning teams than they are the reason why these teams won.

When you're sitting on a big lead and simply want to bleed the clock, you tend to call a lot of running plays. But if you're down 20 points midway thru the 2H, you tend to pass a lot to conserve time while you try to catch up.

As such, how much running or passing the Cardinals do will be less a matter of design and have more to do with how each game is going.

I'm always amazed that the mods allow everyone to bash on one guy repeatedly over his opinion. He's a longtime loyal fan and I prefer him over the thousands of fans who just joined because of Warner.

He's also got thicker skin than most of you who go whining every time someone disagrees with you.

As long as we dont see much of Whiz's favorite running play... HB draw out of shot-gun.

EXACTLY!

I love when a stat shoots up on the screen, "team is 21- 1 when rushing for more than 100 yards" or "team is 21-1 when running the ball 22 times or more".

Not much changes. Run to set up the pass or pass to set up the run. If you're stubborn enough to continue to run the ball without success, you will find yourself down by 10pts real quick if you don't have a great defense.

Play action and screens will play a huge role of just how successful this offense will be thru out the year.

I agree. Hopefully BA is so talented at coaching this that he breaks the historically gawd awful culture of the Cards, can't run a decent screen play, ever!

Play action is really only effective if the D has to respect your running game. I'll let Duckjake add the comment/statistics that he has memorized showing how horrible we have been with this over the past ____ years.

I hear that a lot but then you look at the numbers and a team like KC is top five in rushing yards and wins 2 games while Green Bay is 20th and wins 11. Washington was ranked #1 and made the playoffs at 10-6 but their QB ran for over 800 yards, not exactly a RB pounding out the minutes on the clock. But I guess those stat sites go look at rushing numbers by quarter and by points ahead, trailing by +7 etc. So who knows?

And there are outliers. KC had an incredible RB and ****e for QB. If anything it proves that running the ball alone won't let you win in todays NFL.

GB had huge Oline issues and ****e at RB so it all fell to Rodgers, not a horrible situation. That will let you win during the regular season but gets you exposed in the playoffs, especially if your D is underperforming.
