Pat Burke's diary

Suns reserve shares his thoughts throughout the NBA playoffs
May 16, 2:26 p.m.

On the suspensions: "I found out yesterday. I had the television on and I saw the suspension went through. It's funny, I kept it quiet (Tuesday,) but I thought all along that they were going to get suspended. We have an NBA meeting at the beginning of every year, and they tell us about the rules and the rule changes. And that's one of the biggest rules. It's cut and dry. You step over that line during an altercation and you're out.''

On the reserves filling in: "Now we're in a worst-case scenario where nobody on the other end is battle-ready. That's one of the upsetting things about this rotation or style of coaching, you got all your eggs in one basket. And now it's the guys who haven't played in a while (getting a chance.) I think the one benefit we have right now is we're playing at home"

On his Game 5 preparation: "(Assistant coach) Marc (Iavaroni) said be ready. That's about it. Nothing major. If there is some foul trouble, I'll probably get in. I don't know. It's a situation where I'm just going to be ready for whatever. Go out and warm up a little extra hard, try to get a good sweat and be ready for what's going to happen."

On the rest of the series: "(The suspensions) are a setback, but they're not going to control everything. The series is tied up. We still have home-court advantage. We know we can go into their place and win. It's not an ending situation. It's one game.''

Well PAT, we don't have much of a choice when all the other egg's are filled with reject ****** babies.

Don't worry Pat you can get your playing time in Europe next year.

From that I guess you could say Burke isn't a D'Antoni fan. The way he talks about the frustration of the rotation and the "style of coaching" makes things pretty clear.

I like Burke but he should get used to it, he's nothing but a bench player.

He is not even a bench player. He gets in only when there is a 20+ point blowout.

I hope that Burke didn't seriously expect to be part of the rotation when he picked up his option in the off-season. And I think players like Rose might disagree with his assessment that "nobody on the other end is battle-ready." This is why you are on the roster. This is why you go to practice every day. This is why you get to cash that paycheck.

Then why didn't he tackle Amare instantly? Good job.

What a moron. He's like Paul Shirley in that he has an exaggerated notion of how good he is and would rather lash out at his team than concentrate on other ways to help the cause. Basically he's saying, "If I suck tonight, it's not my fault." Yeah, that's the attitude of an NBA champion.

I agree. He certainly is getting paid well enough to sit on the bench. He is probably one of the highest paid players in the league per minute of playing time. He should just keep quiet and do anything he can to contribute in any way.
