Well, here is why our defense is so good. Unless there is a player at another position out there more deserving right now, this guy should get DPOY award. Love it.

"How does Peterson compare to Norman? According to Pro Football Focus’ coverage analytics, Peterson is ranked higher in every category except quarterback rating, in which Norman edges Peterson by one place. Most notably, Norman has been thrown at 90 times (ranked 37th) and has allowed 47 completions (17th) while making four interceptions."

"Peterson, who routinely covers the offense’s No. 1 receiver, has been thrown at 62 times this season according to Pro Football Focus, third-fewest among cornerbacks who play at least 75 percent of their team’s snaps. The 29 receptions he’s allowed is tied with the Seahawks' Richard Sherman for fewest in the NFL, and his completion rate of 46.8 percent is second-best with one game left in the regular season."

A terrible shame that PP will most likely be overlooked because the writers who are tasked with making the selections have not done their homework.

PP21 has become better than I thought he could be. And I was critical of him last year. I thought he was over rated. But not anymore he made a huge change to his body and his game.

Has to be one of the all-time great seasons for a Cornerback. Yea, I know there have been others that have had more INT's... but of course, I have no doubt that if Pat was thrown at more often, he'd have more INT's.
He literally took his name, and the name of the opposing teams' #1 WR, right off the stat sheet!
I had my concerns about PP after last season... however, he's more than answered any questions I had about him. He is truly one of the all-around best corners I have ever seen...

He is having a defensive player of the year season. Sad he hasn't really been mentioned as such in the media.

Him against Baldwin should be an awesome match-up this weekend. Baldwin in the last 7 games has had almost 700 yards and 12 TDs (those numbers prorated over 16 games would be 1550 yards and 27 TDs, he's been on fire).

We will see if they move Peterson in the slot to play opposite of him. I expect them to put Peterson on Lockett, Bethel on Kearse, and Powers on Baldwin. Powers is more natural in the slot.

I would point out that the first game of Baldwin's good 7 game stretch was against us and he had like 130 yards and a TD. I could be wrong, but wasn't it Powers that was covering him in that game?

Another poster said it was powers, I made a thread about it. Would much rather see Peterson on the guy that's been playing out of his mind and ate up JP in the first meeting.

Incredible that Baldwin snuck in as a UDFA. Ever Harbaugh, who coached him at Stanford, didn't give him a sniff in his first year at SF. Whoops.

Now, as Commissioner Blakelock said to DA Feyderspiel in The Gauntlet, "he's gotta be stopped, and stopped hard!"

It could have been, but Peterson has struggled out of the slot throughout his career. I'm not sure you want to put your best defensive player at a natural disadvantage. Better to put Peterson on Lockett, shut down that part of the field, and then bracket coverage on Baldwin.

You have to remember that college is full of good athletes. Even the less athletic ones are athletic. What separates success and failure in the NFL is almost always opportunity, work ethic, and scheme. Baldwin was a player who was hindered by being limited by the NCAA rules. Once he got to the NFL, he was able to put in all the work he wanted to in order to perfect his craft. That drive is what has separated him from other wide receivers.

To bring this back to the Cardinals. Do you believe Okafor is any different of an athlete than he was last year? Nope, but off-season issues tend to signal how much work players are putting in in terms of caring for their bodies and perfecting their game. To me it has looked like the league spent the off-season studying Okafor and Okafor wasn't preparing for those changes. The Cooper situation is the same. Arians is going to play the 5 best linemen he has. If Larsen is playing instead of Cooper, it is more about Cooper than it is about Larsen or Arians.

Great article, thanks for sharing that NashDishesDimes.

There are so many great stats in that article, but my favorite is this:

Peterson has defended against 35 different pass catchers this year according to Pro Football Focus. Of those 35, 23 were targeted just once and 12 didn’t make a catch.

That is phenomenal. It's almost incomprehensible. Out of everyone he's defended, that's basically saying 3/4 of them only threw his way 1 time during a game. Out of those teams that did attempt 1 single pass, half of them didn't even catch it.

Incredible. What's crazy is he will only get better!

I won't apologize though, I wasn't on him last year and always defended him. LOL. Suck it haters.
