Arriving Thursday night to spend two extra days to get used to the heat, instead of their usual Saturday arrival.

2 days won't get them acclimated to desert heat.

What?
It may actually prove to be a disadvantage. Two full days of going outside and feeling it in person could make the players even more concerned about it. You can have it describe to you a thousand ways but until you step off that plane and get heat waved ..........

You just don't get it.

soo true.

just standing in the sun makes your skin BURN (although that sometimes feels kinda nice).

I cant immagine playing ANYTHING, let alone football, in that type of heat.

Furthermore, even though its only supposed to be about 100, the on field temp is much more since Sun Devil Stadium is like a reflector and reflects the heat down to the field.

I disagree that it wont help. ANytime you can have a couple of extra days in a climate you are about to play in willbe a positive. Getting off a plane on a Saturday and then going to the stadium the next morning to play a game without aclimating yourself is bad...not to mention the jet lag....

The jet lag will be gone by Saturday and the body will have some aclimation, sespecially after a practice session on Friday and another walk through on Saturday.

It can not hurt, and it has to be a positive for them.

However, as is the case in the NFL, it will still come down to performance for three hours on Sunday...and talent against talent.

It almost seems to me it could make it worse. If they are planning on practicing here it could cause them to wear out. Three days in heat you are not used to would be worse than just showing up and playing one day in it IMO.

The sun and the heat have a way of taking it out of you.

If I was them I would only have some walk throughs and keep exposure time to a minimum.

Damn, I lived there for 6yrs and I never could get used to it. Two days will only make them think about it more.

Sorry, but I disagree. There is nothing worse than getting off an airplane , walking out into 100 plus heat and then having to play the next morning.

Two days of getting used to it will unquestionably be a benefit, not to mention recovering from jet lag.

I think it will help them out to be here a little early. At least it might be a reminder for them to Hydrate early an often.

100 degrees at SDS is never any fun. Probably one of the worst ways to watch a football game. Man I can't wait for it to cool off. Pats fans might melt out here if they are not careful enough.

One advantage will be the extra few days to prepare...the Pats played on thursday...the Cards on Sunday..the Pats will be well rested...sure it will be hot but if the Cards can't keep it close in the 4th then it won't matter...

I really don't think the extra days will help. But like a previous poster said it really won't matter unless the cards can keep it close well into the 4th. At this point the pats are a much better team.

Ah good, that way they have a better chance of being sun burned and worn out before Sunday even gets here. ;)

I'll take any advantage we can get!

We've actually had more bad games in the hot weather than good ones. I remember some ugly, ugly hot September losses over the years. I remember the Eagles drank pickle juice one year to beat the heat one year and beat us up pretty good. That was in 2000, I believe. Last year, we got trashed 38-0 in one hot game, and then turned around and won the next week.

I think the Pats coming in two days early really does nothing, none of those other teams did that. I still have an absurdly illogical level of confidence about this game.

I do to AJ. This reminds me so much of last years packers game.

We'll drive up early to make sure we have parking, the lot we be filled with obnoxious jerkoffs rooting for the wrong team. It will be hot as hell. Someone will be sitting in my seat. We will leave the game with all those Pats fans hanging their heads. There is one game like that every year. This is that game.

Just to let you know it should be around 120-135 on the field

yup

SDS is a giant dish/bowl, reflecting all the heat to the center of the stadium, the field.

It was 120 or so for the Pack game on the field even though the temp that day was only 105 or so.

They kept showing this plate of cheese melting on the field. All my buddies here were asking me is that real. I just laughed, I lived in Phx for 40 years and I never got used to it. It seems to me the longer I stay in the valley now the more it bothers me. In other words my first couple of days (back in the summer time) it doesn't seem that hot but after a couple more days I remember why we left.

However, what manyt of you dont seem to remember is that while the Cardinals held their August training camp in COOL Flagstaff, the Patriots held their is STEAMY, HOT and MUGGY Foxboro......Hot August 90 degrees, some days close to 100 with 90% humidity.

It just might be that they are used to the heat more than the Cardinals.

The other teams that came in here, in the past, and wilted int he heat, also held trainingg camps in cooler locations, the Pats did not.

Anyway, it doesnt matter that much with the Paysas it did with the others as the Pats are a much deeper team, talent wise, and Belichick uses them all...such as the FIVE wider receivers, THREE tight ends, multiple and changing sets on defense.....

That COULD make the difference coming down the stretch as the Cardinals are no where as deep.

In either case, anything can happen and sometimes it does.....But, if Pats have an early lead, it will be tough for Cards to come back because at that point, it will be the Pats defense that will dictate the flow of the game.

I was just looking over at the Pats board. They said they had a relativly cool summer, as it never really warmed up. They said the Pats havent played in warm weather in a long time. I dont know where you got this info, but Ill believe them.

Portland Oregon these days.
The Cards practiced full out in the heat all during the off season. They had 3 'camps' prior to Flag -- and split time then between Flag and Prescott -- to be more used to the heat.

I really do believe the Cardinals will surprise a lot of people Sunday. Mostly Pats fans.

It's hot on the field for BOTH TEAMS......and in a game like this, under those conditions, the team that has talent, and DEPTH, wins...and this Patriots team is deeper than any team that has ever played in Arizona, early in the season, in years....Depth, the ability to rotate players at different positions, on both sides of the ball, is one of the Patriot's strengths, and Belichick is a master of using it.

That's how I see it and that should make the difference.

Howeer, you still have to play the game.
