This happens on every last hail Mary and its never called so just because the pats were closer and ran a designed play? No way gronk has a shot at that ball. You can't have a game like that end in a penalty.

So, anything goes on a game's last play? That was blatant holding at the very least. The Niners were jobbed too by a that bogus call on Brooks. You gotta' play through these things. GBR!

I don't agree.

This is one of the rare times I wanted the Patriots to win, because of the playoff implications, but I see no way that pass is complete to Gronk even if the defender on him was not there. The ball was too underthrown and would've been picked anyhow. No way in hell Gronk makes his was back for the catch from where he was to where the pick was made.

If they had flagged for PI, everyone would've been screaming favoritism for NE, which is what it would've been IMO.

Agree 100%. The ball was about 8 yards away from Gronk and there's is no way he even close to catching that ball without the contact. He's going to the back of the end-zone and the ball is place at the front.

If there is a 1% chance of that ball being caught, the flag should not have been picked up. The initial call was correct. I'm a Patriot hater, but New England should have gotten an untimed play because of the obvious and egregious pass interference.

"Patriots" and "Jobbed" in the same sentence?

Niners accusing their refs of bias?

Cards getting the benefit of several weird calls this week?

Something must be done! The end of days is near!

I don't even care that much that the Panthers won. They still have two dates with the Saints. And anyway, we don't need to chase them. We can set our sights on the Niners, who are waffling. It'd be much more sweet to knock them out of the playoffs anyway. You know, if that was possible...

I agree - let's knock out the beloved Niners.

And... In the Karma can be a bitch category... Earlier in the game, a Pats offensive linemen leg-whipped Charles Johnson which caused him to miss most of the rest of the game. It was blatant and ugly a mind I'm sure the league will come down heavy on that dude...
Saw that and it was ugly. The guy apologized after the game, but still out of line. Injuring a player on purpose should be an immediate removal from the game.

I think the Pats were robbed but there's no way they call a penalty there--they had just called PI the play before to put the Pats in that position. Right or wrong there's no way they call 2 in a row and give the game to NE. You'd never hear the end of it.

There were so many bogus calls this past week that, lost in the clutter, was the non-grounding safety call when Henne failed to get outside the hash-mark (doubly outrageous when you pair it up with the grounding call on Palmer - who threw to a spot on a timing pattern only to have 1 or maybe 2 receivers run the wrong routes).

I think these refs are afraid of the bookies. What was the line last night?

A TD would have been a Pats cover and would have pushed the game over so it affected both bets good thing I parlayed the panthers and the under!

Just a coincidence. Maybe Tim Donaghy was correct.

Game can't end on a defensive penalty, and it didn't when they picked up the flag.

No it wouldn't. I had the Pats at +3 so a Pats TD would have made it a push not a cover.

Rule is 'outside the tackles' not hash-mark.

Good no call

1. It can't be DPI because the ball was uncatchable, it never got to Gronkowski
2. It's not defensive holding becaue Gronk was never restraicted in where he was trying to go. Gronk kept running toward the end line.

Maybe I am wrong, but I believe I have seen defensive holding called on a player on the other side of the field from where the ball is thrown.

BTW, looked to me as if Keuchly was pushing Gronkowski across the end line so he would be an ineligible receiver.

Holding calls are all judgmental. The restrained player has to show that he is trying to get out of it but if he just let himself being held, usually no call.

of course, I wanted the call and Pats to win coz of our playoffs possibility.

The most available spread was pats +2.5, I actually had panthers -1 because I live in NE and all the money was coming in on NE.

I'm not an expert on the official rules, however, Steve Young, Ray Lewis and Trent Dilfer all said the penalty should've been called. Not Pass interference, but face-guarding and/or holding. They said that no matter where the ball is, face-guarding or holding are always called...
I'll take their word for it. The Pats got jobbed...

Don't care about their creds. They all have brain damage from concussions that I don't.

The laws of physics say that ball had no chance of getting to Gronk. The refs actually made a ballsy, correct, call against a supposed NFL favorite. They should be congratulated for it. They didn't follow "Jordan Rules" and make some tacky letter of the law call. Besides, people act like it was a given NE wins if there was an illegal contact or holding call, and it would've been FIVE YARDS.

It was a horrible non call on the hold. The ball could have been thrown to a receiver no where near Gronk and according to the rules, it was holding. They call that away from the ball all the time. Gronk doesn't need to be the intended receiver, and it is still holding, not PI.

There's no holding call once the ball is in the air. The call, if made, is PI.
