It didn't take long for New England Patriots quarterbacks coach Ashton Grant to become a fan of Drake Maye.
Grant was hired as part of the Patriots' revamped coaching staff under Mike Vrabel. He will be working directly with Maye and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to help get the offensive unit back on track. At the very least, he seems increasingly confident about what the team has under center at quarterback.
“When this opportunity presented itself, it’s something I jumped on as quickly as possible,” Grant said at the Patriots' draft party, via Mass Live's Karen Guregian. “I mean, this kid is going to be special. He has all the talent in the world.”
“...This guy is a next-level thinker. He’s well-rounded. I think there’s no better quarterback you’d want in your franchise.”
Grant served the role of quarterbacks coach with the Cleveland Browns last season, as well as offensive quality control coach and offensive assistant positions during his tenure with that team.
The entire hope of the rebuild in New England hinges on Maye's development and the team's ability to build and develop the talent around him. That puts even more pressure on Grant and company to hit the ground running in 2025.
