Updating a previous post, the Hornets are now expected to trade Chris Paul to the Lakers in a three team deal with the Lakers (Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol) and the Rockets (Kevin Martin, Luis Scola and Goran Dragic).
The Hornets are expected to get Lamar Odom, Kevin Martin, Luis Scola and Goran Dragic, while the Rockets get Pau Gasol. This is a major coup for the Lakers, who now have an All-Universe backcourt and managed to land CP3 without losing Bynum, the likely centerpiece of an offer for Dwight Howard. It's ironic that this blockbuster, which enriches one of the highest-spending big-market franchises in the league (at the expense of a small-market league-owned franchise), went through on the same day as the new CBA. Keep checking Rotoworld's player news for all the fantasy fallout. Related: Lamar Odom, Pau Gasol, Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, Andrew BynumSource: Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter Dec 8 - 5:59 PM

Howard will wind up with the Lakers and we will have a LA vs Miami championship. Stern got what he wanted.

The hidden winner in this trade is Houston getting Gasol.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think Paul will wear down at a much earlier age than most players. His build and his style of play don't make for longevity. This will help the Lakers during the Kobe era but I'm not sure he'll last (at the superstar level) more than a year or two past that. It could have just been the few games I've seen but I think he is already a beat slower than his rookie season.

Paul is a good trade but for most of your height? Your only big can't stay on the court? A new coach? No depth? No PF? Bynum 5 game suspension?
If The Lakers don't get Howard, I see a long transition for them.

Details emerging:

Lakers get: Chris Paul
Houston gets: Pau Gasol
New Orleans gets: Lamar Odom, Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, Goran Dragic, first-round pick, second-round pick

So an NBA-owned team trades the best point guard in the league to the most profitable team in the league. Who didn't see that coming?

Well there goes the NBA for me. Might as well call it the Hekericks league. Seriously how man teams are going to be able to consistently compete against the Lakers/Heat/and Knicks. I will still watch the Suns every now and then but not gonna put as much thought/money into watching supporting NBA. Nobody likes a handful of teams dominating the league.

i dont see how the lakers end up with Howard. they basically had 3 pieces to deal when it came to Howard and Paul. and now basically only Bynum to work with, i dont see that being anywhere close to enough to get Howard.

Are most of these contracts expiring going to NO? I do not see why NO makes the trade other than to benefit the Lakers. Again, I like what Houston got out of the trade. It appears the league is spoon feeding the Lakers again.

Bynum will likely miss just under half the games this season. That will leave Kobe and Paul and nothing in the front court. I'm not shocked the Lakers ending up w/ Paul. The league owned team deals the best PG in the game to the Lakers, no surprise there. I find it hard to believe that is the best offer out there. I sure wish I didn't love the Suns cuz I frickin' hate the NBA.

D12 is next.

Keeping Bynum out of this deal is the clincher. Lakers will take a nasty contract like Hedo back.

I thought one of the main points of the lockout was to increase parity, and now the league engineers another superteam by abusing the power of its ownership of the Hornets. Unbelievable.

Huh? NO got a good deal out of it, since it was a FACT they would be losing CP3 no matter what.

Let me put it this way. If Dwight Howard doesn't come to L.A., this is a lateral move at best.

What made the Lakers seemingly unstoppable was their massive front court depth, with Lamar, Gasol, and Bynum. Now, two of the three are gone and the one left is injury prone. If Bynum goes down with another injury, Lakers are screwed.

In addition, Kobe is not used to playing with an elite PG except during the ASGs and the Olympics. It'll be interesting to see how Kobe and CP3 will exist in the same back court.

It'll happen... even though Chicago will likely offer Noah, Deng and picks and the Nets will offer Lopez and picks, all of which is a better deal then Bynum, it'll happen... even though the Lakers have ZERO cap room next year which means Howard really doesn't have the leverage Melo did.

The Hornets could have gotten a much better deal from another team if the playing field were level.

this is a JOKE. NO got a good deal out of it? They got a bunch of role players and a young guy who's been perpetually injured his entire career. The idea that this was the best offer out there when Rondo, a young STUD was offered, or when a guy like Curry was being dangled is a joke.

this is the league sending the Lakers a gift... as usual. Do you think it's just a coincidence that the league didn't demand the Lakers best YOUNG player in this deal, leaving him available to be dealt for Dwight Howard? Give me a break.

Oops. Stein reports that the deal won't go through tomorrow and Paul is expected for camp in NO.

According to Wojnarowski, "NBA owners have pushed commissioner David Stern to kill the deal sending Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers".

if Howard doesn't happen, this is a terrible move IMO. The problem is we all KNOW Howard's going to happen. The league allowing the Lakers to not have to move their best trading chip for Howard and NO getting a bunch of guys and a perpetually injured volume/non-impact scorer is proof positive of that.
