In a off season in which you HOF QB retires to early. You lose two good players in FA. You trade arguably one of the better players this organization has ever seen. You would think that would be a recipe for disaster.

But with additions of Rhodes, Porter, & Hadnot I actually believe our D & OL has the potential to be better! Especially after we bring in some good rooks in a deep defensive draft. The OL is definitely deeper IMO and better suited to pound it out in the running game.

Then you add in the fact that we were able to obtain a veteran back up at QB and most importantly extend Ken Whisenhunt. This could quite possibly be about as perfect an off season as you could hope for IMO.

Wanna make it sweeter? Extend DD!

Kudos to you Cardinals you are getting it done!

nah. perfect off-season would have seen us re-sign Dansby. D would have been MONSTEROUS with very little holes and playmakers everywhere.

That being said, it's a pretty solid off-season, considering the departures and adds.

That's why the whole premise of thread was perfect CONSIDERING what we lost ;)

Warner taking some wonder drug that made him 23 again and then signing a 15 year deal would have been perfect. This one is decent.

Hats off to the FO so far this off season.

Putting in some work and being proactive.

I have been waiting a long time for us to have a good defense that tackles well. Is this the year? I hope so.

Weatherspoon is already better than Dansby and I think Lee could be this year's Brian Cushing. There's a very good chance one of them will be a Cardinal next year.

The truth of the matter is that for as great as Dansby was in the GB playoff game, he still had 1 pick, 1 FF and 1 sack in the regular season last year. Losing that shouldn't kill any D.

Yeah, I agree.

M.B. is not the same person as B.B. We got a new stadium, are making the playoffs and people want to come here. IMO signing Whiz was the best off season move so far.

I'm thinking of hitting training camp again this summer - you going?

Solid not perfect, though we still have a gaping hole almost the size of the Grand Canyon at ILB. We better draft at least 2 ILB'ers.

Very well said Shane----I believe that the FO has done the very best that it reasonably could, and in fact was close to perfection in their moves this off season. Just a little luck with a NT or ILB would have been perfection. I love that they parlayed bad luck into skill and pulled out success. Way to go FO.

Any other year this is just a Average to good first two weeks of free agency. But these circumstances and considerations actually make it great so far IMO -

1. Free agent market sucked and still sucks.
2. 200 fewer free agents then normal.
3. There are more UFA's 40 years old or older then there is 27 year olds or younger.
4. Top 8 team rules.
5. Only 6 other teams have signed more UFA's, add in the trades, and players resigned for total amount of "player/draft pick moves" and Cards are the 4th most active team in the NFL.

I'd much rather have what I've seen from Dansby for his entire career being a playmaker (not just his last year playing with two bum shoulders) and Bill Parcell's belief that he's a difference maker over two rookies gotten at the end of the first round who could very well be busts. That's the truth of the matter IMO.

Thats thinking scared IMO. I would much rather have a 22yr old beast with a GREAT work ethic, team-first mentality and terrific leader coming into his own than a 30 year old me-first mercenary for hire with two bum shoulders that is bound to start slowing down soon. Especially when the young guy will cost 1/4 of the older one.

personally, I think it's thinking smart and I'll side with Parcells on that over you cardsfan. No offense.

this is all complete and utter conjecture.

coming into his own than a 30 year old me-first mercenary for hire

you mean the guy who Wiz called the QB of the defense the last three years and took close to the same contract with the Fins as we offered... and isn't 30 but is actually 28. Come on now. Just cause he's gone doesn't mean you need to start making crap up about the guy.

Especially when the young guy will cost 1/4 of the older one.

you get what you pay for.

It's funny. You talked about the "truth of the matter" but all you've offered in support of that is projection, conjecture and outright lies. Again, I'll take my and Parcells truth over that any day of the week.

These two make this off season pretty amazing...

My views on Matty are well documented. Further, our secondary still leaves me very concerned. Rhodes could prove to me an upgrade over Rolle, or, it could be a wash. In either case, as an entire unit it is still weak. Very weak.

With Warner gone, our success will acutely boil down to:

1.) The play of Matty.
2.) Will our run game finally emerge as a consistent, legit threat?
3.) Can we consistently pressure the opposing QB (Porter has to prove to me that he can still bring a consistent, legit level of pressure), Campbell has to take another step forward, and we'll find to find pressure from somewhere else - Wilson? Dockett? Haggans? Davis? Rookies(s)???

That said, you can't help but be impressed with what Whiz and Graves have done this offseason...

Sean Weatherspoon in the first and Brandon Spikes somewhere in the 2nd day would be great. Weatherspoon at WILB and Spikes at SILB and it'd be like a healthy Dansby and Hayes all over again.
