If they don't get what they want right before the draft the price will come down on Foles. I think they will get a #1 and a #2 for him but two ones and two two's is a bit much. I can see offering this years 1 and next years #2. I still like the idea of trading up into the top ten and taking Baker Mayfield. If we stay put then Mason Rudolph at 15.

If Alex Smith is only worth a third rounder and a potential starter DB, then the Eagles are insane to think they'd get two 1's and two 2's for Foles. Some crazy team might offer a 1st but I think his worth should be a 2nd rounder.

I thought he looked okay at best. Like someone said earlier... Poor man’s Alex Smith.

That offense had a TON of weapons and he led them to an average of like 19 ppg. Saw very little impressive in that run.

But I would say he is a young Alex Smith with some potential to get better because in limited chances, they have both fared relatively about the same early on. I know this, there are no sure fire studs for a QB in free agency and we sure the hell better draft a guy and take our chance like every other team which sometimes finds the man, and then has their run (oh what bliss)... I was once entertained at the notion of Glennon but the games he played with the Bears left a definitive no bueno

You always jack up the price and then go off of the response :)

Hey McCaron does have a hot wife so that would always be fun to see on the big screen once a gm :)

It's funny that so many say he sucks or is just a backup when no has seen him play since he was a rookie and he performed pretty good for a rookie. Also, those that claim he couldn't beat out Dalton know there are 96 million reason why and no one knows if those are football related. If he costs $12-15 million a year for two years and we get a QB in the 3rd, I am all in. Hell, maybe worst case he'll be our Matt Flynn and the 3rd rounder is Russell Wilson. I rather good more unknown and cheap and still draft than all in on a 30million dollar Cousins.

Discussion on NFL Today mentioned that the Eagles want 2 #1 picks and 2 #2 picks for Foles.

Point was made that teams trade that much and more to move up in the draft and take a risk on a totally unproven guy---so Foles should get at least that much considering his success under Kelly and also last year in the big games including the SB.

Well then I am on to Tyrod Taylor. No way in hell is Foles worth one of those picks IMO. I have thought a third all along.

True, it's haggling 101. But with the top rated QB in the league going for so much less just a couple of weeks ago, they seem to really be dreaming here.

Can the Cardinals afford to wait in a bargaining scenario with another team which could take a while when other options are in a time sensitive mode for the position too... the very act of trading is precarious for a team without a QB

McCarron is likely to be paid way too much money, history says. He’s going to be paid like a sure thing, which is far from accurate. He’s certainly not a sure failure, but he’s likely at best a game manager-type. The problem to me is that if functional, he’s likely to be a highly paid bridge. With all the offensive needs that seems like too much of a financial commitment to that type of QB. I think either you go for a power FA, like Bradford (if cut), or trade up for a QBOTF and sign a McCown. I still think they’ve got to fix the O-line or nothing else matters. That will cost money. I don’t think they can afford two costly QBs.

I have a strong feeling that no moves we make at QB will be excitement makers. Just divisive. This board, and I’d imagine the fanbase at large, has wildly different opinions about the direction to go at QB, and until games start being played, you’re still going to have a good chunk of people dissatisfied with the choice.

Yep. Well, they'll cause excitement, of a sort, no matter who they draft--just not all positive excitement. It's because there are so many directions we can go, and not one of them is a sure thing, or close to it. And THAT is because Keim and, to a lesser extent, Arians, royally EFFED us at the future (now the present) at the MOST important position in football.

So, fun times are ahead.

Yeah it was all Polian who suggested that the Eagles SHOULD want that. But he is losing his mind.

PFT is blasting him over his Lamar Jackson vs Manziel a few years ago comments. Now he says the Browns deserved what happened.

The Browns do deserve what happened, but Polian was on the same side.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/02/21/polian-changes-his-tune-on-manziel-dramatically/

Along the way, Polian has revisited his views on quarterback Johnny Manziel. Those familiar with the reaction to Polian’s Jackson-is-too-short theory are well aware that, on the first day of the 2014 draft, Polian argued that the Browns should take Manziel — who is three inches shorter than Jackson — with the fourth overall pick.

Manziel has magic,” Polian said at the time.

Fast forward to Tuesday. Polian, who apparently hadn’t been reminded of the Manziel remarks that were dusted off the day before, bristled at comparisons between Manziel and 2018 prospect Baker Mayfield.

Cleveland got what they deserved,” Polian said. “When people did their homework on Johnny Manziel, as everybody will on Baker Mayfield, they were well aware that Johnny had problems that might affect his playing in the National Football League. And Cleveland ignored it. So they got what they deserved.”

Maybe four years ago Polian meant to say “Manziel has magic mushrooms.”

I'd give a 4th for Foles, maybe the compensatory 3rd if we get like a 6th back.

That's not to say I want or don't want him. I can see him doing good, I can see him sucking. He might be the right choice going forward, but no way I pay like he is.

Eagles have the worst cap situation in the league, and there are too many legitimate options to trade away more then that. I'd much rather just sign McCarron or even Bradford (whom I don't want) then give up high picks for Foles. They can sit on his cap charge and cut someone else if they want to.

Spotrac

Even if it turns out he might be worth it, the going rate for backup QB's who've failed previously isn't a high one, and I sure don't want the Cards pushing that bar higher.

I will say with one caveat, if we somehow haven't secured a veteran by the draft, we might not have a choice to spend more though. Let's hope that isn't the case.

Trading Foles only saves them 2.2 mil on the cap next year though. That is the only reason I can see why they would not trade him this year, or why they want a blockbuster deal. They might just think for 2.2 mil it is better to keep him unless they are blown away by an offer.

The other side of the deal is just as much a catch-22. You're trading away assets and I think NF is going to want to get paid. That is how he could have some control of where he is or isn't going. I know his contract is somewhat diluted with some crazy language that if he is still on the eagles roster in 2019 the contract is void. What I want to know is does that contract specifically say "EAGLES"? This could get interesting. I still wouldn't give more than a third for him, and I don't think 2.2 mil in cap relief is enough for the eagles to trade him.
