It would make sense. Not saying we should do it.
But McCarron is on record saying he wants a chance to compete, which means he wouldn't be against competing against some QB we draft.
With McCarron we could still draft a QB in round 1 or 2 and let them have at it.
McCarron also won't break the bank. I don't know how much that means, but he's said he wants to play football more then cash in.
Some other guys we try to sign, might not sign if we plan to draft a QB high.
With Cousins, you don't need to draft a QB high, everyone else you basically do.
We need to go after the best we can get, but we're not the best option, and there are some that are right around us as well. Also others have a lot more money. We simply might not be able to get Cousins, and every other veteran but him is a crapshoot long term.
Bradford would be the consensus closest, but I've never been a fan of his, especially not when he's on IR half the time. Bradford makes Palmer look like Lou Gehrig and Cal Ripken Jr.
Sam Kolb is not the answer. A bridge for 8 of 16 games, maybe.
All in all it depends on who is offering what to McCarron. If multiple teams are offering him 15 a year, we'd likely have to be around that.

Also the Glennon deal had an out for this year, and the whole deal only had a 3 million dollar signing bonus. It's not as bad as people think.
We have a ton of cap space in 2019, and does anyone really want to sign Bradford for 20 million a year and a good chunk of that is signing bonus? It would make for a big cap hit if we wanted to release him next year or 2020.

“It’s just a blessing,” McCarron said, via Jim Owczarski of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “I was going to be blessed either way because you’re still in the league; you’re still being able to play the game for a living. But it’s just awesome just to be free now and to hopefully get that opportunity and be able to compete somewhere. That’s all I’ve ever wanted. I’m just super excited. Just really excited that I get that opportunity now, and I just can’t wait to just showcase what I can do and show a team that I can lead a team and win ball games.”
“We’re going to be open to everything,” McCarron said. “I’m not the one — the people that know me and truly know me, and my family knows — it’s not about the money for me. I just love playing football. Making the money is great, but I just want to play. That’s what I grew up on. That’s what you’re raised on. Like here in the South, you’re raised to love football. It’s not about money. I just want to play. Whoever gives me an opportunity. I’m not going to chase the huge contract and be put in a situation that I might not be 100 percent comfortable with just because it’s a lot more money or whatever. I want to go somewhere where I can win and help the team win and we have a bright future together. I’m just super excited for this next chapter.”
