Which of the Indianapolis Colts' free agent signings has the most upside?

Ben Cooper of Pro Football Focus recently answered that question for each of the 32 NFL teams. His choice for the Colts? Quarterback Daniel Jones.

"The upside here is obvious: If Jones wins the starting quarterback job, he could guide Indianapolis to new heights, potentially a playoff berth," wrote Cooper. "The downside is also apparent: The Colts may have made Jones one of the NFL's highest-paid backup quarterbacks just for him to sit on the bench all season."

Internally, if you're GM Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen, I would assume the hope is that Anthony Richardson wins this job convincingly. However, Jones provides the Colts with an option to create that competition they are looking for at quarterback, and he is someone with plenty of starting experience if he has to be relied upon.

There are numerous instances around the NFL right now where quarterbacks at their second and third stops are finding success with a change of scenery and the experience gained.

After being released by the New York Giants last season, Jones joined the Minnesota Vikings, and Kevin O'Connell felt like an opportunity to hit the reset button. He now joins a Colts' offense where there is a strong running game to help shoulder the workload.

Jones has made 69 starts in his career. He's completed 64% of his total attempts at 6.5 yards per attempt with 70 touchdowns to 47 interceptions. Prior to being released by the Giants, Jones' efficiency dipped, the New York passing game struggled to generate big passing plays, and his interceptions were up.
