Ahmed back at #9
If it were Gibson, Ahmed would have been back at #8 after one game.

I applaud Chip for giving it a chance again. Especially since it was originated by Tony La Russa. Good teamwork.

Ahmed is not a MLB player and should not be in the league. It's so pathetic that they keep him in the line-up. With Tuffy and the pitcher in the line-up, this team needs a shortstop who can hit.

has a stellar spring, and hit 23 homers, 95 RBIs and batted .299 last year in the minors. can play SS and 2B.. if he came up and hit 20 homers a year i'd be ecstatic. (ian desmond, anyone?)

I agree! Which is why I started the thread, "Nick Ahmed is not a Major League hitter."

But as long as they've decided to give him a chance because of his fielding, I am glad they didn't abandon the experiment of Ahmed batting ninth after just one game, which is what Gibson used to do with his experiments.

Ahmed is not a Major League hitter. 'Not even close. Neither is Tuffy. But Tuffy's role in handling the pitching staff on 146 pitches per night is a lot more crucial than even a good fielding shortstop who might be involved in, what, 10 plays per game.

IMO you can have a weak hitting catcher OR a weak hitting SS IF you have a really good pitching staff.

Mediocre pitching + the Mendoza Triplets = Disaster. You better get big production out of the 1-4 hitters because pitchers can even pitch around our 5-6 guys because they know 7-9 are a joke.

I would rather have an average fielding shortstop who can hit. Hitting the pitcher 8th is stupid and embarrassing.

Unfortunately, the story at the plate is looking much like last season... If Goldy isn't producing/knocking in runs, nobody else is...
Bottom line is that this team still remains totally dependent upon Goldy in order to score runs. Uggghhh...

Isn't he more of a 3rd baseman who can sometimes play 2nd? Or are you suggesting he is talented enough to try SS? I too like this kid.

Also, Do they have any plans to bring him up soon or is that hinged on Hill being gone?

I plan on watching my first mlb game of the season tonight. I'm still a sf giants fan but I am rooting for the local team.(even though I live in New Mexico)

Ya he is.
He does however have about 180 innings between short and second with no errors. If his offense can translate to the big leagues I think it's worth a shot

Penny has really been sucking on defense lately.

Not doubting you but I had no idea he has played short. Where did you see that? That would be great. Thanks

Drury has only played 10 games at SS and all were his first season in the minors a few years ago. He is listed as 3B, 2B and 1B, but not SS.
