I would love to see Rouch as the closer before the playoffs I feel a lot better with him than Lyon right now but dbacks win 13-7 talk about a shootout :)

well thank god we had a big bottom of the 8th because lyon is doing pretty bad already gave up 2 er and now bases loaded with one out :( ugh
A relief pitcher pitches VERY different with an 8 run lead than with a 1, 2, 3 run lead. he's pitching purely to contact which is not what Lyon normally does but is certainly the right thing to do with an 8 run lead in the 9th.

P.S. I agree Lyon should have had the night off with a lead that large

This HAS to be the stupidest managing Melvin has EVER done, and that is saying alot.

What an absolute friggin' idiot.

How stupid can one guy be? Hell, even Grace is getting irked with him.

Rauch getting WAY over used, having Snyder attempt a suicide squeeze (I could write paragraphs about the stupidity of that decision), and having your FRIGGIN OVER USED CLOSER come in at the end of a 13-5 blowout!

Holy Christ is he stupid. Cruz, Rosales, hell, anybody but Lyon.

Moron.

They scored 9 runs in 4 games against the Dodgers... :bang:

...and 37 runs in the other 6 games. Why must AZ fans be the ultimate pesimists. This team is playing great since the break (11-6) and is in first place in their division with a long home stand against below average ball clubs in front of us. Not to mention that this club is BUILT for a playoff run with Webb, Haren and RJ.

Even AFTER a HORRIBLE stretch in May/June, we're only 3.5 games out from having the 2nd best record in the NL.

Oh Yeah DID I MENTION WE'RE IN 1ST PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!with one of the youngest teams in baseball.

I don't think anyone is being pessimistic, we're just stating facts. You can't look at the entire season with just the last 17 games. For the year, the Diamondbacks are a much better hitting team at home. I think it has to do with the spacious outfield and the great hitting background.

Tonight was a great start to the 7-game homestand. Let's hope they can continue with the hot bats tomorrow. Hopefully the Cardinals can help the Diamondbacks this week.

Happy to eat crow on this one - looked ugly through 3, but the offense kept coming. Nice to see Young have a nice game, and Reynolds as well. Conor was just solid as he has been for most of the year, and it hurts to know that we will lose Hudson. It was the Pirates, but it still counts.

I totally agree, but Melvin is still a moron and Chris Young sucks. Never forget that. :p

As for the opener, Haren's first inning was shocking, but I have seen so many times where a D-back ace starter has a bad start like that and then settles down and even wins. If Haren was not going to have his best stuff, this was a good game for that. The D-backs bats sure were lively, at least, 18 hits! I hope LaRoche is in the lineup again for Pittsburgh, 0/5, 4 RISP stranded, haha. I guess Lyon was going to see some work, because they aren't planning on using him much this week. And he couldn't possibly blow an eight-run lead, right? Better get Cruz limbered up...

So this doesn't have anything to do w/ the Dbacks v Pirates series, but I didn't think it was thread worthy, so Ill just ask it in here since I know someone will see it...

I was looking at getting a pair of tickets for this Fridays games and I noticed the prices were higher. Is this a typical Friday night thing, I assume to help pay for the Fireworks? (which I'm sure they're raking in far more than the cost of the fireworks display, but thats besides the point). I don't the Braves would count as a 'premiere' game or whatever (like the Cubs or Red Sox for instance). Has anyone noticed them doing this on Fridays this season?

Happy we're winning and in first but we also play in the worst division in baseball. That definitely helps. We have been playing a lot better since the break, but our manager scares me. A lot. Well, a good win anyhow. Nice to see an offensive coming out party.

Hey Chris, thanks for showing up.
And realizing that he should swing at only strikes.

It would have been nice if his Manager and Hitting Coach had realized that a year and a half ago.

'Sorry for repeating myself, but I hate to see a young player take the blame for not being coached properly.

Cardinals suck. LA has scored 3 runs and they have the bases loaded and only one out.
