PITTSBURG, KS — Pitt State softball scored a combined 21 runs against the MSU-Moorhead dragons in tournament doubleheader action on Saturday.
In game one, Pitt State’s Courtney Storey drove in Heather Arnett to break the 0-0 deadlock in the bottom of the first inning. In the second inning, the Gorillas would score four more unanswered runs. Sophia Hoffmann homered to center to push the lead to 3-0 via the solo shot. Arnett and Storey later followed up with an RBI single and 2-RBI double respectively to widen the lead to 6-0.
Following the big second inning, Pitt doubled its lead in the third with six runs coming across the plate. An Arnett triple (2 RBI) and a Kadyn Trochim home run (2 RBI) were key contributors to the Gorillas scorching-hot offense. Arnett and Storey both batted 1.000 on the afternoon with 3-for-3 and 2-for-2 days respectively, as both finished with 3 RBI apiece.
Through four innings pitched, Lexi Franklin picked up her first win on the season in allowing just four hits and striking out three for Pitt State. The Gorillas went on to win game two 9-1.
Up next, PSU will take on Concordia-St. Paul in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 16, with game one beginning at 12 p.m.
