"Redundant" was a sloppy word, but I was too lazy to change it. I meant that there isn't really room in the rotation for him and Turkoglu and the whole wing contingent of Hill/Richardson/Dudley/Childress. Warrick is going to have a hard time finding regular minutes unless someone else is either hurt or playing badly.

Yes, this.

And this is why I think there will be chemistry problems. Someone is going to be odd man out and won't be happy. Turk isn't going anywhere with that contract, so Warrick is probably the one who will struggle. This team is going to be very difficult for a coach to manage.

Strange as it may sound, some sort of injury might actually be GOOD for chemistry.

Remember, Grant Hill isn't going to play 40 minutes a night. Hedo will start at PF, but I guarantee he won't be the PF for all his minutes.

But he probably will be during the most important parts of each game. Starting the 1st and 3rd quarters and when the game is on the line.

When we need momentum and when we need closers. When most of our opponents will be strong up front.

It's a Catch-22, because when Hedo is on his game, he is one of the best closers in the game. That's just a fact.

Yes, but I meant defending and out-rebounding the opponents' "4".

With the games on the line, defense usually decides the winner. Do you agree?

Defense and offense decides the winner. And yes, there is a concern, but look at the league as a whole and most of those closers are not going to be huge 4 men. There are a few (Duncan, DHoward, Yao), but they're probably going to be guarded by Robin Lopez or we'll resort to a zone, which was pretty successful during last year's playoffs. I'm all for the Jazz giving the ball to Paul Milsap and asking him to create in order to make the last basket--the thing is, they would never do that--it would be Deron Williams 99 out of a 100 times, and that last time would be Al Jefferson (again, guarded by Lopez).

The funny thing is you can say the exact same thing about last year's team, because honestly, how much better of a defender was Amare?

I was just watching the Rare Suns Clips thread. When it showed Amare's dominating stuffs, I thought it's a damn shame that D'Antoni stifled his overall effectiveness by not appreciating -- yup, defense and strong rebounding.

He could have become a first tier superstar if coached properly. And not played out of position at Center.

You're probably right, but there were a lot of doubts amongst the front office and even this board that Amare could ever become a good defender. Now that he's back with D'Antoni, he's going to be even worse than before, if you can imagine that...

Thats how I would fix that statement. Hedo is at least one full season removed from being a closer. Not sure what the issue is and why his game declined so rapidly in Toronto. Could be that he is just aging faster than most. Is he a smoker? Thought someone said he was.

The Cardinals escapade with Derek Anderson has sort of soured me on the prospects of trying to resurrect someone's career.

Apparently the Raptors tried to turn Hedo into a catch and shoot specialist. He got very unhappy with the way he was used.

I watched parts of NYK's game in Milan. Amare is rotating far out on defense, as he used to under DA. Bad luck he ended up with DA again, I guess.

Only a team with D'Antoni would pay $100 mi for a guy who is that inconsistent on defense.

Why is it that everyone who trashed Amare's play all of a sudden thinks the team will be 15 wins worse than last season? :|

I think the biggest problem was DA didn't want Amare picking up fouls and that greatly reduced his aggressiveness on defense. I remember watching Amare's 10 block game against Utah in his 2nd season and thinking he was going to be able to dominate both ends of the court.

Because we're not replacing one of the best power forwards in the game with an average or even a bad power forward. We've simply decided to pretend the position doesn't exist.

I think Amare took unnecessary ripping here. Even factoring in his defense I consider him to be one of the 2 or 3 best PF's in the game. The ONLY reason I'd have let him walk was the risk of injury. I think it's a good deal for New York but it would have been a bad deal for us.

I believe that time will prove that to be true -- and not that much time.

Unless D'Antoni keeps him out of the post, which turns him into a big Guard, in which case you've lost your Power Forward anyway.

But with Amare as the only big on the court, either hiding from fouls (defense and rebounding) or risking injury will be prevalent.

He's probably our best option but he's a power forward the same way Marion was a power forward. He's never been able to guard the position and I don't see that changing any time soon. AFAIC, he's no more a 4 than Hedo is but he might be a serviceable 3.5 if they ever invent that position.

It was obvious that was going to happen, but they seem to gain a lot of offense. 30pts in 3 quarters is insane. We will be lucky if we can get that kind of production from Childress and Warrick combined.
I have always said what Amare lacked on defense, he makes up for on the other end of the court, especially while he was playing for Gentry. Put a good defensive big beside him and they are easily top 3 team in the east.

I wish we could have made the trade with TOR for Al Jefferson. He would have been just what the doctor ordered in terms of replacing Amare and making another championship run.
