Was this a mandatory minimum type thing?

Although he deserves time..... And he's an idiot for taking a loaded weapon into a club. And he's a blooming fool for shooting himself..... 2 to 3 years for shooting yourself seems harsh.

It is what it is I guess.

2 yrs isn't really two years. I'm not certain as to what the good time exchange is in NY, but I'm guessing it's somewhere around 17 days to the month. Partner that up with work release and house arrest and I'll be shocked if he does a year.

The ESPN article says 20 months is possible with good behavior. What an idiot that guy is!

How does he get more time than Stallworth?????
The reason is Stallworth was certainly drunk, apparently video of the accident which killed that poor guy show him darting from behind a tree into the street without using the crosswalk.

It is possible that had Stallworth been sober the outcome may have been the same. Also, Stallworth did not flee the scene...

NYC has some very strong gun laws and if Stallworth had shot an innocent bystander in a NYC nightclub with an unlicensed gun, he would have received life, plus a day. :)

Burress was lucky, he just shot himself, but he was stupid to not take the deal offered by the DA.

NYC has very, very tough gun laws - you have to know the laws where you operate

comparing it to laws in other places is worthless and irrelevant

he broke a law in NYC, was very uncooperative, refused a generous plea deal because he didn't want any prison time (when everyone in power in NYC was saying that without jail there was no deal), so he then pretty much goes on and admits everything and has charges pressed in a case where he has little chance of winning

back to the dealing room and 6 months becomes 2 years

i'd be surprised if he does a year

either way he's a dope and his legal counsel isn't much better

I think it's ridiculous. Two years for this? People kill other people while driving under the influence and get house arrest. Justice is certainly blind at times.
