Have you never looked on the sidelines of a college football game? It's full of recruits, VIPs, etc. There are like 700 people down there. My brother's snuck down to the sideline of LSU games multiple times.

One reason college football sucks.

I have an issue if your team is in the top 4 playing for the championship.

Other than that, it is an exhibition game that generates revenue for the school. If you need the exposure to show what you can do, play. If you don't, then don't.
Exactly.

The players sitting out are likely 1st round picks. Why risk it for an exhibition game? Nobody in the playoff is sitting out.

Dre’mont Jones should risk getting chop blocked so Osu can put another rose bowl trophy in their case?

I think Shane just yelled at some kid to get off his lawn

They’d just start sitting out the playoff games too....

I predict it won't be long before the elite of the elite players each year sit out the entire season to "prepare for the draft".

10 years ago it might have bugged me but in this day and age there's just too much at risk for these kids. If you're in the BCS championship series and skipping then yeah that's maybe selfish, team is trying to win an NC. But if you're in the Meineke Bowl and your school already got the money, why risk an injury?

I don't buy the school helped you get into this situation either, the schools are making millions annually off these kids, if school A didn't take the kid school B would have.

I guess the counter is if everyone sat out the bowl games would suck, but football doesn't have an NCAA tournament like basketball does so most of these teams are not competing for anything tangible in the bowl games.

What does a national championship for your rich institution have to do with protecting yourself in the future? In either one your not getting paid or protecting yourself for the future... Being OK with it in a national championship playoff where you may have to play in 2 extra games not just one increasing your chance of injury even more Sounds 100% hypocritical to me....

Why??? Again what gain is it to the individual star player anymore then a standard bowl game? When their financial future is supposedly at stake.... So they can wear the hat? Or wear the 10,000 dollar ring they’ll get?? It’s hypocrisy from anyone saying they would be against it in the NC playoff but not a bowl.

it ruined his draft status.
not to mention he had to make what was at the time considered a miraculous recovery

And yet he’s still very very rich

It’s lame. Don’t care how much money they are risking. They wouldn’t be in the situation to begin with if it wasn’t for the university who gave them a very expensive free education and the stage that afforded them the opportunity to make that money.

This is what insurance policies are for.

I would definitely hold this against a player when considering drafting them. It’s an insult to their teammates. If they put themselves above their college team, they’ll put themselves above their pro team. I can’t imagine Larry Firzgerald sitting out a bowl game

Jaylon Smith of the cowboys blew out his knee and almost had his career end because he played in the teams bowl game. Jake Butt of the Broncos took out an insurance policy before tearing his ACL in his final college game at Michigan.

This article states Jaylon Smith May have been a top 5 pick like his teammate Ezekiel Elliot. Zeke is due $25m over 4 years with a 5th year option up to almost $24.4m. Jaylon Smith, however, will only make $6.5m over his 4 year contract.

I don't mean the school I mean the team, that's why I said team. If you're on a team that has a chance to play for an NC, you owe it to your teammates to try and do so. But if you're on a team that's going to the Meineke bowl or pick your minor bowl, I don't think you do and I don't think your teammates particularly care either.

If it’s protecting your income and that’s the reason then national championship shouldn’t matter. What’s more important your future or that one game? To me that while mind set is 100% hypocritical.

It’s a sad state of affairs in college basketball: top recruits will play one year tops if they don’t go overseas or bring investigatons on your school

Now college football is catching up: Redshirt an athlete, coach him for three years and watch him gloat on the sideline while quitting on team

Nobody is going to give a damn about N’Keal sitting out of that forgettable bowl after a few days. Hell, no one is going to remember Bosa, Oliver, Greedy, & others sitting out of their forgettable bowl games. I hope more & more of these men continue to make this decision. I’m not even sure how deciding to not playing in a forgettable bowl game = quitting on your NFL teammates in the future.

Ah, so you just came in here to post nonsense.

Carry on.

I read it and the article is nonsense... That’s our opinion. There is a reason insurance policies are offered there are ways to protect yourself without abandoning your team. Even the NC game is meaningless in the grand scale so if they are gonna skip then skip them all i say...

I equate it to basketball. I remember Danny Manning playing 4 years at Kansas. Blew out his knee and then came back for his Junior and a Senior seasons in order to win the Most Outstanding Player award in the Final 4. Could have been the top pick after his Junior year. That is how it was.....At least 30 years ago.
