I forgot to add the sarcasm sign. I wouldn't have a problem if a top 5 pick skipped the rose bowl or one of the playoff games, either.

Oh I caught the sarcasm... And good at least you’re not a hypocrite:)

If you can’t see the difference between playing in a playoff rather than the peach bowl, then you’re just being obtuse.

Every teams goal is to win a national championship, not beat Florida in the peach bowl.

One game you’re playing for something. The other, not so much.

Dewayne Haskins is playing in the Rose Bowl. Dre’mont Jones isn’t. I don’t think more or less than either guy.

Good for you... None of them should sit. If you’re concerned get insurance that’s why it’s there and nullify this argument. In the grand scheme that national championship game has no more Importance LONG TERM as it relates to financial security for the college player then the Bowl game. If you can’t see that you’re the one being obtuse.

But I’m assuming that makes it more exciting for you if you were to have them in there now because there’s supposedly something riding on it... Hyoocrisy... But that’s ok we can agree to disagree.

How many times have you heard, when talking about an injured player, if it was a playoff gane, they would be out there.

Same concept. There’s more on the line.

Why do players sit out exhibition games?

Ok Now you're just being disingenuous. Are you really trying to compare a college and pro athlete as though they are the same?

That is a team who has already invested millions in a player making that decision on whats best for the team and the franchise as a whole moving forward.

Not a singular player who is basing a decision off of what he deems best for himself.

Can you even name me more then 7-10 guys in the history of college football who were bonafide stars and had their careers destroyed by participating in a bowl game? Im betting you cant. Buy the insurance if you have concerns and get on the field with your teammates, coaches and represent the university that took a chance on you. FYI We will never agree on this. lol

It's an actuarial decision. The less games left you have in college the higher the risk that your next game is the one where you get a serious injury.Insurance policies are great but it's not going to cover the difference between top 5 NFL draft pick and down several rounds because you got hurt. But the player also has his own individual goals and for many of these kids, a chance to play for a national championship changes the equation enough for them to risk a potential injury, but a minor bowl game doesn't.

I think the top schools in the power 5 conferences have abandoned all pretense of the scholar athlete --

they are effectively NFL prep schools that offer a fall back academic program --- all of them in recruiting stress the NFL players that come from the program

they shouldnt be surprised that players are treating them like NFL prep programs. the moment they believe they need to shift their focus to the NFL draft process -- the college game has no purpose anymore.

college is designed to prepare people to earn a living --- i dont have an issue with kids making rational choices in that regard

So it's like being in a sponsored training program and skipping the final training session?

What does a national championship for your rich institution have to do with protecting yourself in the future? In either one your not getting paid or protecting yourself for the future... Being OK with it in a national championship playoff where you may have to play in 2 extra games not just one increasing your chance of injury even more Sounds 100% hypocritical to me....

Why??? Again what gain is it to the individual star player anymore then a standard bowl game? When their financial future is supposedly at stake.... So they can wear the hat? Or wear the 10,000 dollar ring they’ll get?? It’s hypocrisy from anyone saying they would be against it in the NC playoff but not a bowl.
Nope. The final four tournament is an extension of the season. The other bowl games are not. They are exhibition games.

I would definitely hold this against a player when considering drafting them. It’s an insult to their teammates. If they put themselves above their college team, they’ll put themselves above their pro team. I can’t imagine Larry Firzgerald sitting out a bowl game
Do you then blame NFL teams for sitting players for preseason games, because it is the same circumstances?

Those are exhibition games that aren’t included in the record. I am sure that N’Keal Harry’s teammates would have liked to have him on the field yesterday. Pretty selfish move. Next think you know, NCAA basketball players will be skipping the NCAA tournament

Why are you sure? You’re not his teammate or friend. You don’t talk to him daily or weekly like they do.

Why would they care? The season ended weeks ago for ASU. This game didn't count for anything. Just like preseason games do not count for anything despite having a W/L record attached to them.
