Does anyone know why any of our guys selectively get a "pat down" by referees before taking the field? A buddy of mine caught a clear shot of the Squareback getting frisked by an official before he took the field. My friend said this occured with a handful of our guys...

It happens in every game on a random basis - it's part of the officiating obligations regarding proper uniform equipment. It's been going on for years....

For one thing checking to make sure guys aren't greasing up their jersey's. In his book Dennis Byrd wrote that the defensive linemen would teflon spray their jersey's so offensive linemen couldn't grab a handful of fabric.

Yep. Beat me too it.

It's usually linemen that get checked.

Don't they check interior linemen for things like vasoline on the jersey? Used to be common trick for Dl's to make it harder to hold them.
