#41 is way, way too early for a guy like Davin Joseph. Only Lutui or Jean-Giles grade out as OGs that high in this draft. Honestly, I'd rather have an impact player there, anyway. Abdul Hodge, Bobby Carpenter, even DeMeco Ryans will likely be available at that point in the draft, and it would be really, really hard to pass on those guys who make plays for a 2-3 year OG project in Joseph.

Every publication that I have seen shows Davin Joseph and Jean-Giles as the two best guards some have Joseph #1 others have Giles none have Lutui higher than #3. But who knows lots can change between now and the draft.

LBs always always always always drop. Sims at #10 would be a momentous reach. I like the kid more than Chad Greenway, but I have a hard time imagining him going higher than 15-17. THR has him going in the 20s. Good kid, but LBs just aren't huge playmakers in the NFL. Too much depends on everyone else around them. Honestly, I think you'll get a similar player at #41 be it Bobby Carpenter, D'Quell Jackson, Thomas Howard, or my boy Abdul Hodge.

For the rest, I mean, I guess that Ko Simpson's a good pick, and Jason Allen would be (who I personally think is more ready to play than Simpson), too, but then you're missing out on any of the really promising OL prospects. Klopfenstein would be a great value if he fell to the third round, but the fact that he doesn't really like to block doesn't do much for me (especially if we pass on Vernon Davis). Guy Whimper seems like a massive reach at 137 when he probably could be had a round later. Remember, Denny likes kids from big programs.

I mean, it's a solid draft, but there's really not that much for me to get excited about. An undersized OLB? Sounds great. A DS? Um... all right. It'd be a good, solid draft, I suppose, but I don't think it would really take the Cards to the next level.

Maybe, but look where they grade out in terms of the other prospects. THR has MJG as the #31 prospect, but DJ @ 49 and DL at 52. Where the Cards are picking, only Giles presents real value. You plug roster holes in free agency. You pick great talent in the draft.

I don't really understand why it's taking this board so long to come around to that.

As a graduate of THE USC I'd love to draft fellow Gamecock Ko Simpson in round two. Until about a week ago he was a consensus round 1 pick until he blew his interviews at the combine. He's still one of my favorite players in the draft though, and I'd feel that way een if e wasn't a Gamcock.

Personally, as Radical as it might sound I'd almost like us to take Huff at #10 and then drat nothing but O-linemen for the rest of the draft. Let's have some real competition this training camp and get rid of every has-been or neverwas who is on our OL deph chart,

Give me a break, you are basing your debate on one draft publication. I'm saying that many draft analysts have Joseph higher or very close to Giles and because I chose him you are now telling me that I don't understand the importance of getting talent in the draft. Amazing.

But with this argument I call mulligan because it seems like it's cool to pick Hawk and Greenway at Top 5 to #11 respectively, but when Ernie Sims is mentioned, it's considered blasphemous and the aforementioned argument is brought up. LBs aren't huge playmakers? Are you serious? Jon Vilma (who fought the same size problems as Sims), DJ Williams, DeMarcus Ware, Shawne Merriman, Derrick Johnson, Kirk Morrison, Odell Thurman, Lofa Tatupu, etc. and that just some in the past two years or so. There are PLENTY of immediate impact linebackers. Tell me you just disagree with the pick instead of making an argument like that.

Bah, Phillistines the lot of you. If someone popular says it the sheep flock, but if someone unheralded says it he's crazy. You keep your safe picks that you see on every other mock on the internet. Coddle the teet of someone else's opinion like you do every year.

I'll feast alone at the table of individuality thank you very much and laugh while some of you become dissapointed on draft day.

EDIT: Damn, this was more than I meant to write initally. Bah, it's frustration.

Jurecki just noted this morning that the Cards like Ernie Sims alot

Graves went and attended his workout (although that was probably FSU pro day -- if a team doesnt have a decision maker at that pro-day, they shouldnt be a decision maker)

The discussion was in context of the Cardinals possibly trading down -- to Minnesota's spot at 17. This was more conjecture than anything else.

I have the exact opposite opinion regarding LB's as Kerouac9. I think that they are the most important players on defense. Every time I watch other teams play the Cards it is the other teams LB's that are kicking our rears. And it is no surprise to me that the Cards defense jumped from the bottom 5 in the NFL to the top 15 when Dansby arrived and McKinnon,Thompson and Fisher were replaced.

FYI: Seahawk's linebacker and DROY contender Lofa Tatupu was 5-11, 225 coming into the league.

Raynoch Thompson only weighed 225 as well. Ron McKinnon was only 5'12".

  1. 1. Nagata/ Huff/ Young
  2. 2. Pope/ Giles/Wright
  3. 3.Whitworth/Wroten/Lewis(Mercedes
  4. 4.Slay/Smith/Matua
  5. 5.Hester/Watkins/Minter
I listed these in order of what I think would be available and how we would go if certain guys were gone. I was a homer on the Brad Smith pick in the 4th rd as he might be there in the 5th. Later in the draft we have to find a kick returner and some decent depth at Cb and saftey. I wanted a MLB with the 2nd pick but believe the Seahawks will take Hodge and Pope would be a better value if he is there. I would look to best Lineman available in the 6th and 7th and see if we could snag another Wells for depth.

LOL. Really? You must not have been reading a lot of posts from me. Because while I like A.J. Hawk in the Top 10, I've said many, many times that I would throw up if the Cards drafed Chad Greenway anywhere before 20.

4-3 LBs aren't playmakers. 3-4 linebackers are a different ballgame altogether, but the Cards don't play a 3-4. Of the 4-3 LBs you list, D.J. Williams has 2 sacks, 1 INT, and 2 FF in two seasons as a starter. He was selected 17th overall. Derrick Johnson was selected 15th overall and had 2 sacks, 2 FFs, and 0 INTs his rookie season. He wasn't mentioned anywhere in the DROY conversation. Kirk Morrison was a 3rd round pick. Odell Thurman and Tatupu were 2nd rounders. They were exceptional values, but they weren't selected in the Top 10. If players like Morrison, Thurman, and Tatupu can be found later in the draft (like, say, where Abdul Hodge will be available this year), why should the Cards burn a Top 10 pick on a guy that will contribute at about the same level as a second- or third-rounder?

Feast at the table of individuality, I guess. But I'll take value picks and build my roster with guys that are playmakers and good values.

I propose we trade for DEN's 2 first ronders for #41 and next years #1.

Round 1 - a) Vernon Davis b) Michael Huff c) Vince Young

Round 1 - a) Jimmy Williams b) Marcedes Lewis

Round 1 - Omar Jacobs

Round 3 - a) Andrew Whitworth b) Jonathan Lewis

Round 4 - a) Mike Degory b) Derek Morris

Round 5 - Steve Breaston

Round 6 - Donovan Raiola

Round 7 - Will Allen

We don't need a OLB or CB. OL can wait till third round.
Elton Brown, Darryl Blackstock, and Eric Green should fill holes in their respective positions. We need a FS, TE and QB. A good DT can be found in either Round 3 or 4 to back up Clancy and Dockett. Plus we stil don't know who else will be brought in as FA so this list could change.

I can really see the Cards taking a G in the 2nd. There are four pretty good ones who could arguably be of value there but very few OTs.

I like K.O, Sims and especially Klopfenstein but only as part of a trade down tactic. Trade down in the first and get Carpenter...then Mangold AND one of those three, then Gradkowski in the third round.
