Shouldn't we hope that the Eagles lose? Reason being that we would want them to be a lower seeded team going into the playoffs (assuming they win the east).

In any case, I just don't see SF overtaking us, so who cares if they win today.

Any thoughts on the issue?

If we could guarantee taking care of teh Rams who should have beat the Texans today I would agree. But as you can see today we cant guarantee anything.

well said Shane. In the NFL, never assume anything is a given or we would all be rich betting on games.

Yeah, well, I will take my chances against the rams as opposed to trying to go on the road in the playoffs and beat philly. Just my two cents.

Put another way, if we lose to the Rams at home after our clunker today and last week, we are done before we ever get started.

49ers next 2 games are against STL and Detroit. If they win today they can get to 9 wins. Our next 2 games are against STL and and team fighting for a playoff spot in Green Bay. If both teams finish with 9 wins then SF gets in instead of us.

Also, if Philly wins their division (they're in the lead right now) then we'll have the 3rd and 4th seeds, based on final record. We'll each host a home game and then 1 team will go to NO and the other to Minnesota. We'll only have to play in Philly of both teams score a 2nd round upset to go to the NFC Championship.

That's my point. I do not want to go to Philly for the NFC Championship game. No way no how.

I don't care where we go and play. We just need to take care of business.

Their next 2 games are hosting Denver and then going to Dallas. Winning today guarantees us a division title but doesn't lock up a #3 seed for them. For them to host the NFCC they have to win their first round game, which would be hosting Dallas, NY or GB. After that they have to win in either NO or Minnesota. Winning today in no way guarantees that we'll have to go in to Philly.

I just don't think Philly has the defense to beat either NO or Minnesota.

They'll be playing in a dome, their offense is fine but their defense can't stop people this year and either of those 2 teams could put 40+ on them if they don't turn it over.

I agree I'd rather not play them in Philly I just don't think we'll play them. If we get to the NFC title game again it'll be in either Minnesota or NO.

If I was given a chance for us to play Philly for the NFC championship, in Philly, RIGHT NOW, I'd take it immediately. First of all, it would mean we've won two playoff games already. Second, the pressure on Philly would be HUGE. All the ghosts of those past NFC championship failures would be floating around.
