It is very possible the NFC West Champs could make it to the payoffs with a losing record. Seattle is 6-5 and has Dallas(4-7), Minny(7-4), NY Jets(8-3), AZ(4-7), and Atl(9-2) left. The Rams are 5-6 with SF(1-10), CAR(4-7), AZ(4-7), Philly(10-1), and NY Jets(8-3) left. And last but not least the Cards have Detroit(4-7), SF(1-10), Rams(5-6), Seattle(6-5), and TB(4-7) left.
7-9 might be a real possibility with how bad these teams are playing right now. 9-7 would be best case scenario but I think 8-8 will win the division. Not that this would happen but what if Seattle lost all of their games, the Rams only beat SF or AZ, and the Cards only beat Seattle and the Rams or SF; which 6-10 team would go to the payoffs? Now I understand why Green keeps mentioning the payoffs, not because of how good the Cards are but how bad the rest of the NFC West is. What happened to the toughest division in the NFC?
