TB: Plummer yet to file retirement papers
Jake Plummer (QB)
3/6: The NFL has yet to receive retirement papers from Jake Plummer, despite reports Friday suggesting Plummer had already filed the necessary papers, according to the Tampa Tribune. If Plummer should decide not to retire after all, the Bucs would retain his rights.

Did his fiance get to keep her signing bonus when Jake bailed on the wedding?

Yep...He would have to give back 5m and walk away from 15m more (5m over the next 3 years).

He has been pretty good at fleecing teams...so, I doubt he walks away from the coin.

I think this is just a ploy. I don't think he really wants to retire. I think he wants to be able to hook up on a team that he can compete for a starting job. He is trying to force the Broncos hand.

I agree that it's a ploy but he doesn't want to compete with ANYONE for starting QB. That's why he's in this psuedo-retirement situation to begin with. He didn't want to compete with Chris Simms in TB and it appears that the Texans like the QB they have. Where to go as a starter? That's the problem I think he's running into.

How do you figure that? If he comes back he is a Buc.

Plummer for sure could get a sweet sports desk job at ESPN or could take the void left by Curt Menefee on the bottom feeder announcer duo that always do Cardinals games.

Because he is thinking that by threatenting to retire the deal is called off by the Bucs. I don't think a deal is considered final until the player reports, passes a physical etc. Correct me if I am wrong but a trade can be nullified at any point until then.

No they don't! It's just a question of what can they get for a Lemon.

So, do you think there is a still a chance Plummer may wind up a Texan? As a starter? Because I think the obvious problem with Plummer is that he believes he must be a starter.

If the Bucs offer reasonable terms to the Texans, then yes, I see a trade of some sort in the works. Although I doubt the Bucs would want Lemonn. As flawed as Jake is, he would be an upgrade--and David needs a change of scenery in a bad way. I don't think he'll be on the Texans roster next season.

Sounds like it could be a long wait to see what happens with Plummer. If he doesn't watch himself he could wind up really retired, or worse, a Raider.

No he was traded for a conditional pick, the conditons were if he retires TB gives up nothing. If not they have his rights and give up a pick in 08 don't remember the round.

Lets say Jake still wants his signing bonus but doesn't want to play with the Bucs.

Could he "accidently" hurt himself, fail the physical, get cut, get his signing bonus then when heals play for another team?

PLUMMER BLUFFING ABOUT RETIRING

A source with knowledge of the situation tells us that quarterback Jake Plummer does not intend to retire, and that he is (as suspected) trying to get to Houston, where he would be reunited with former Broncos offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak.

Plummer's desire to play for the Texans would help explain the failure of the team, in the wake of his supposed retirement, to hit the market and sign a veteran quarterback, since it's widely believed that David Carr is finished there.

Some league insiders believe that, in the end, Houston will acquire his rights, presumably via a trade with the Buccaneers.

Of course hes bluffing .. no one is going to retire if they have to payback $5 million dollars ...

This is exactly what I think. And I think the Texans are serious about it if possible. The Bucs are loaded at QB now, I'm sure there be somthing they want for a reasonable price.
