Denny brought him in to be a backup to and mentor McCown. Warner was pretty much backup until 2007 when Leinart had a collarbone injury.
He brought him in as the starter during FA in 2005 after McCown flamed out in 2004. He started most of 2005, but was pretty bad then we drafted Leinart. But Warner stayed the starter in 2006 until Leinart eventually replaced him around Game 4 or 5 of his rookie season. 2007 was the year he started his incredible comeback when Wiz started rotating QBs in the middle of games and then totally took over after the collarbone injury.

I still don't think we have a snowball's chance in Glendale and that we are just being used dot com in the typical traditional Arizona Fluffernals fashion but hey what do I know

I actually share the same fear as @SoonerLou. My logic being that Kyler's game is predicated on mobility, and if he doesn't come back to full strength next year, Payton's now gotta determine what the next step is at QB. Continue to hope that another year is going to put Kyler into full health? What if KM never recovers?

If Payton wanted to be in a situation where he had to start over at QB, the Texans job is right there. With a 100% Kyler that just needs some different coaching, the discussion would be different.
