Schefter made it clear today (he must have some knowledge) that San Fran will not pursue him. And with the horrible wind in that stadium, why would he do it?

Q: With the Super Bowl now over, talk this offseason will surely focus on Peyton Manning. Where do you think he will land? Any chance that he goes to Minnesota or San Francisco?

-- Herbert (Iowa)

A: No, Herbert, Minnesota and San Francisco will not be in play. Remember, Manning will pick his team even more than it will pick him. Minnesota can't offer as much as other teams, and San Francisco will not pursue Manning when it wants to re-sign Alex Smith. The team that is the favorite in my mind to land Manning is Miami. The Dolphins can offer warm weather and a favorable contract, and the team has been screaming for a franchise quarterback since Dan Marino left. Make Miami the favorite for now. But we've already seen what being a favorite meant to New England in this Super Bowl.

He lists Miami as the favorite..... And I believe they will be our only real competition. They will throw the boat at him, but will PM really think they are the best option? I have no clue, but logic dictates that he wont.

After little bro's 2nd SB ring, one thing is for certain, Peyton will NOT retire. He'll obviously go to a team that he feels is a QB away from getting him back to a SB. It'll be up to Whiz, Fitz & the Cardinal brass to convince the Mannings that we are that team. I say the "Mannings", because Dad will have a big say in that decison making process.

It looks like Peyton will make it as financially soothing as possible. He's not out to rape the teams that step forward with interest. This will greatly increase the number of candidates. Even with an enlarged pool, the Cardinals have plenty to offer. I'm sure that the Cardinals will point to the success they had with Warner, but we'll need Warner to help us drive that point home. From his recent comments, I'm a little leery of whether his input will help or hurt us. I'm going to go out on a limb & still say that Warner will help us in this process.

So who's REALLY interested out there, and who really has a need for a veteran QB, who is looking to win NOW?

Washington - They defintely have the need & their owner loves to make splashy moves. They have a solid D, but no receivers & a very average running game. Shanahan is no longer considered an offensive genious. They would offer Peyton the moon in return, but one thing cannot change. The Skins play in the same division as the Giants. I honestly don't see the Mannings wanting that strife. They are OK with competing with each other once a season, but not 2-3 times at the expense of one of those teams not making the playoffs. Top it off with an inept owner & I don't see this happening. Could happen with any other family, but not the Mannings.

Minnesota - Definite need, with a great RB to complement Peyton. Too many negatives - 1. They feel Ponder is ready to play now & they like him. 2. Coaching staff is on thin ice, future uncertain. 3. Franchise's status is questionable. 4. Team has so many holes. They couldn't win, even with Peyton. Huge longshot.

Tampa Bay - As bad as Freeman was, I still don't see them giving up on him yet. Manning family doesn't want a 1st year HC & Schianno is an ******.

San Francisco - This is the one that I fear, because Harbaugh will do ANYTHING to win. He's the most competitive individual I have ever seen. He is a great salesman & is also sincere & loyal. If he can convince ownership (and he can) that Peyton is where they need to go, then Manning will be priority one. I could see the Mannings loving this option. The only downside is their lack of receivers. Manning would bring along Wayne & this is very much a possibilty. If Manning goes here, they can win 2-3 SB's in the next 5 years. They're definitely a favorite in the Manning sweepstakes.

Seattle - They are also a team that has a need. Solid D, solid running game, solid fan base, But arrogant, pompous HC. Not sure that Manning wants to play in that climate either. Longshot!

Miami - Definite need, with some upside. They have a strong nucleus & can win right away, but ownership has more bark than bite in getting what they want. Warmer home games, although rain will rear its ugly head. Road games in Buffalo, New England & New York are not positives. Furthermore, HC was brought in to help secure Flynn as their future. I don't see them deviating from that course.

Tennessee - Here's a distinct possibility. Hassellbeck is just about toast & Locker is questionable at best. They have a solid D, a great OL, a great RB, & a couple of dangereous receivers. Peyton LOVES that part of the Country. With Manning, they are a SB contender. One of the top 3 candidates!

Jacksonville - I think they have a definite need, but this franchise has questions everywhere. Just not going to happen.

Kansas City - Definite need, but the Mannings wouldn't be interested while they have a defensive minded HC there.

Arizona - Almost a picture perfect match, with the exception of our OLine. Dome stadium, with perfect weather conditions. A HOF WR, with some very underrated talent to complement Fitz. Could also bring along Wayne, which would make our aerial offense perhaps the most dangerous in the league. The OL gets 50% better, just adding Manning & his ability to spot blitzes & react accordingly. A solid RB tandem in Wells & Williams. A solid & up and coming defense that could create many short fields for Manning & company. I think that Peyton would LOVE to play for Whiz. I also think that Daddy would also love to see his son play for Whiz. Whiz wouldn't have to create a vision for Peyton. Bring out the Warner tapes & Peyton could see for himself. Whiz won a SB with a very young QB & almost won one with a very old one. His pedigree speaks for itself. I think that Michael Bidwill is a gentleman & the Manning family would like him very much. It comes down to how well we can convince Peyton that we will upgrade the OL, or show him on tape that Kolb & Skelton's inexperience had a lot to do with our OL woes. We'll be a finalist!

Top 3 options in no particular order:

Arizona

San Francisco

Tennesee
That's an amazing break down. I agree 100% would love it to be us.

As "his" (Schefter's) favourite at the moment.

Same goes for Mike jureki. He thinks Miami is the front runners, and he would like Afc better than Nfc.

One things for sure if the Cards get Manning ( and I think it's a strong possibility) there are going to be A LOT of things that need to change.

1) no more half hearted half assed play. Manning will not tolerate that
2) no more poor effort or giving up on games simply because it's cold or on the east coast ala Patriots 2008 or Eagles 2008 or Vikings 2012
3) Whisenhunt will have to adapt to Mannings style of play instead of forcing the system on players. How long did it take him to adapt to Warner's style of play? Took forever.
4) When the Cards go back to the Super Bowl no more coaches ducking out of the locker room to catch the halftime show.
5) chemistry must improve. It was a problem Betrand Berry talked about when he played and we all heard stories about it last year
6) the Cards must tighten up and bring it every week, not just when they feel like it and must stop committing stupid penalties

The biggest thing Miami has going for it is the AFC, that family wants an all Manning Super Bowl. I think that is part of the reason Archie and Eli did their draft thing with San Diego.

All things considered otherwise AZ would have to be the better choice.

I don't get why he would choose Dolphins over the Cardinals. What does Miami have that we don't. We have a better WR,better stadium, and nice weather during football season. Not trying to be bias but someone tell me why he picks Miami over Arizona.

If I had to pick with what we know today: Arizona.

Pro football players are one of the most gossipy groups of people on the planet. My guess is Larry and Peyton have been DMing each other for weeks now. If they did meet for dinner you can bet Larry mentioned John Lott's name more than once. Lott and Peyton are perfect for each other. Same types. Same attitude. Larry is good friends with Lott off the field. Fitz and Whiz are tight so it's a given that Fitz talked up Whiz.

If Peyton ran into Tony Dungy this week and asked him about Fitz, Dungy no doubt told him about Larry and his family. (Some of the first things I ever learned about Fitz came from Tony talking about how terrific he and his family are.)

I think a LOT of it boils down to how much power Michael has over Mr. B's checkbook. My guess is more now than ever before. Michael wants that ring as much as any owner in the NFL, IMO.

We see Peyton here and, after Larry's payday last year, it's ON that it's no longer same old Cardinals.

(And the dome will be permanently CLOSED.)

I would offer up Steve Nash as proof that Arizona is not the place to be for market exposure, regardless of which sport an athlete plays.

Steve Nash isnt very marketable IMO. No real Charisma IMO. Plus he plays or the ARMPIT of the NBA :D

Even though the division may in fact be stronger at the moment, I still regard the NFC West as being more winnable for Manning in Arizona than the AFC East would be for Manning in Miami.

I expect both the Jets and Patriots to be better next year. The Pats know what their weaknesses are and the Jets know they need to tighten the ship.

Manning coming to Arizona probably means that Alex Smith is starting in SF next year, and though they are defending divisional champions, I think Arizona is better with a healthy Manning.

But we'll see what happens...

We are biased but here is what I have read and why he would chose Miami.

1. He has a condo there and he and his wife would love to live there. He plays golf with Dan Marino. Miami has great weather, the beaches, and is a high media center.
2. He wants to stay in the AFC which he knows very well.
3. Team just lacking a qb, has a good defense, top 10 WR and good offensive line. Jake Long Pro Bowl left OT protecting his blind side.
4. He has an owner that wants him and will pay him the bucks. They also have a new offensive minded coach.
5. They have the 8th or 9th (per a coin toss) pick in the draft and could sign free agent like Reggie Wayne (went to University of Miami) to give them more weapons.

We can argue these points as we have and try to make a better case for the Cardinals but he is a competitor and playing in the AFC East would not bother him. I'm sure he feels he can beat Brady with the porous Patriot defense. He certainly would not be worried about the Jets as the Fins beat them in the last game of the season.

I would love to see him with the Cardinals but I just don't see it happening. I hope that I am wrong.

I don't see why owning a condo in Miami even enters into the discussion. I own condos and don't live where they are located... the point of a condo is to get away from where you live. It's not like he can't afford another one or two.

I can see people bringing up Miami as a possible landing spot, but why would Manning want to play the Jets and Patriots twice a year?

Marketing-shmarketing.

For anyone who thinks that great players get no love if they live in Phoenix weren't paying attention when Charles Barkley was the number one super-star sensation across the entire country when he played for the Suns. MVP, Nike, even got himself into the MJ-Bird Super Bowl McDonald's commercials.

Peyton's already that big of a star and more. anywhere he goes, the mass marketing blitz will follow.

Gee did you really think posters on this board would really pick another team more than ours.

In this spirit, I'll rule out the Cardinals, and pick which other team I think he may sign with.

The poll should have been. Other than AZ, what team do you think Peyton would sign with.
