I don't think that is correct. If it was we should just keep the team together and sign the best player available and later use the exception combined with Chicagos pick to get a decent center in a trade or use just the exception to acquire a decent center with bad contract.

I would prefer we use in a Dalembert deal, but since this was a POR/PHX trade proposal I thought that it would make sense here as well.

As far as the trade exception, I swear I read somewhere on this board that we had to renounce it at sometime if we were not going to use it.

The Suns do not have a trade exception. They have to renounce most of their exceptions in order to sign Nash. Technically they may still have the MLE and "million-dollar" exceptions, depending on exactly how they've decided to play the game, but it doesn't change the fact that they can spend up to -- not past -- the cap line.

If a trade pushes a team over the cap by more than 100,000 they must then match salaries.

Teams under the cap do not get exceptions. Think about the word for a minute. Why would a team UNDER the cap get an EXCEPTION to the cap??

Are we in a black hole? The last month has been a collective brain freeze! We've been talking about the rules and the CBA for years now, and yet we're still going over the same stuff? When is it ever going to end??
