I think Foote is much better suited to play inside in a 3-4 rather than MLB in a 4-3. I don't think he's athletic enough to play MLB in a 4-3 and the Lions have a young player in Jordan Dizon that they are apparently high on. Might as well rebuild that D with young players. I don't think he is an upgrade over Dansby either because he is limited in coverage, but he should be good against the run.

Foote would definately be a good stop gap. Yeah, he might not be able to cover like Dansby did but I personally think he will help us more than Dansby ever did in stopping the run.

Dansby's departure will lead to a drop off of talent at his position this year no doubt...but if the right decisions are made and the right people are brought in, our linebacking corps still has the potential to be better overall from where it was this past season.

I agree with everything you mentioned. Foote will be better against the run and I'm more worried about LB's stuffing the run rather than being great in coverage. It'd be great to have a guy that can do both well, but beggars can't be choosers right?

Just bringing in Porter shows how much things have changed. In years past, the Cards would never have brought in a FA as flamboyant and outspoken as Porter. I hope we sign him.

We still probably wouldn't have if not for the fact that our coaching staff has a history with the guy.

Porter signs, I like our LB core even more this year than last year's. Get Larry Foote as well, Brown and Davis develop, and we have a tougher & younger set of linebackers than last year.

Agreed. Camp will have a lot of guys too watch at OLB this year. If we land Porter I want to see what he brings, Cody Brown after a year on the side line, Stevie Baggs who I think, if given a shot, will be awesome as a pass rusher, Will Davis to see how much he has improved over the off season, + any player we draft to play OLB. Camp will be very interesting this year.

I agree we would be stronger at outside linebacker. However, we need to add at least 2 ILB this offseason.

Joey Porter had 9 sacks this year while playing less defensive snaps. Heck yes I would like to see him as a Cardinal. The guy can flat out get to the QB.

I think he would just bring a buzz to the whole defensive side of the team, him and Dockett would have so much fun out there and raise the level of both games. I'm really excited about this potential move.

In the long term picture I see Cody Brown becoming a HUGE force. Something about what he did in college tells me this, injuries spared.

Buffalo will be a tough sell to Porter. When he was talking his way off the Dolphins' roster before the Super Bowl, he stated he wanted to play closer to his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif., and named the Cardinals, San Diego Chargers and San Francisco 49ers as favored destinations.

One of Porter's daughters has autism. He frequently would make cross-country flights from South Florida on his regular-season off days to be with his family in California. In October 2008, Porter and his wife opened a center in downtown Bakersfield for special-needs children.
I'm pretty confident that he'll sign.

Yeah this is pretty sikk, love what the front office is doing right now. Definetley looks like Zona is best for him. If they get him and Foote and a nice draft pick they may have gone from nothing at LB (now) to a top LB core...

Best decision Cards ever made was making Whizy the coach it seems like

In Whiz i trust.

Still, one would think that in a league where passrushers are gold, where more and more teams switch to a 3-4, that a good 3-4 OLB who can get to the qb would be in higher demand.

Then again, if he's brought in to be a rotational guy and to groom youg guns like Brown, Davis, Jerry Hughes or another draft pick, ánd he's ok with that role, then i'll like it.

Again, in Whiz i trust.

It is just plain nice to see that as an organization it appears we had a plan laid out knowing we would probably lose Dansby and a good chance we would lose Rolle.

It sure is different being a Cardinals fan now!!!!!!!!!

It's corps not core...but lets not get ahead of ourselves, it would be a top corps 3 yrs ago but these guys are just above average now as their age is catching up to them. The positive thing with signing veterans like these though is it gives us a chance to prepare & evaluate younger players rather than just throwing them to the wolves...guys like Davis, Baggs & Brown and whatever ILB draft pick we have can get limited snaps until they gain experience & are truly prepared to contribute on a consistent basis. These type of signings would bode well for our future.

I'm not really excited about Foote to be honest...but if he is the best and most realistic option for the Cardinals so be it.

Foote, Porter, and Rhodes might just be an upgrade to Dansby, Rolle, and Okeafor.

Foote is not even close to the player Dansby is.

But it is a definate upgrade over Rolle, and Okeafor, IMO.

My goodness.

Dockett, Haggans, and Porter out on the field.....there is going to be some talking out there.

IF Porter signs, I am making a VBookie that he gets kicked out of the next Niner game.

My point was combined.

Foote<Dansby
Porter>Okeafor
Rhodes=Rolle

I'd like Porter to be brought in and it sounds like he will. Worst case is teams are going to have to account for Porter is pass rushing situations. Right now, no one else on the roster is like that.

I could do without Larry Foote but i don't know who else is out there. Ideally on Foote,i'd wait until after the draft but the Cards won't have that luxury.

I know there is a lot ot talk about Porter and his mouth and the headaches he can cause, but how bad of a headache does he actually cause? I ask becuase Porter has not one but two former coaches trying to sign the guy - Wiz and his former Dolphins position coach who is now with the Bills.

Also like someone already said Wiz and Haggans(who was also Porters College teammate) had Dinner with Porter in Pitt over the weekend. This may mean that a deal could get done even before his visit on Thursday or his visit with the Bills.
