Really we can't capitalize abbreviations, Portalbd State, PS, or ASU in the title?

Other forums you can!

Freaking amazing.

You can. But it is a little quirk in the sofware that prevents 5 capitalized letters in a row. It prevents obnoxious all caps titles to help the board look cleaner. Unfortunately it ignores special characters.

If your thread was titled "PS at ASU" or "PS vs. ASU" it would take the caps fine.

Nice for ASU to get the win in convincing fashion, but still a lot of things to work on:

1. Steven Threet looks like Superman out there trying to use his heat vision to burn holes in his receivers chests. Too many times he clearly picked a guy at the beginning of the play and tried to force it to him regardless of the coverage.

2. About half of Threets passes were wobbly knuckle balls, in part contributing to...

3. Dropped passes! Hold onto the ball wide outs!

4. As with all Erickson teams, very sloppy, undisciplined, too many damned penalties. Those false starts, at home, in an empty stadium are inexcusable.

I wasn't very impressed. It's a good thing we moved to the Big Sky Conference or we'd really be in for some beatings this year.

Unless our running game can be as effective against the big boys this looks to be another tough season. Cameron Marshall stands out among a group of talented runners but I doubt we'll see those holes again (after next week anyway).

I was hoping to be impressed by Mazzone's offense and Threet but came away disappointed in both areas. Also, that's a pretty weak Portland State team that was able to move the ball effectively against us at times. We held them to FG's when it counted but they piled up more yardage than I expected.

I was actually pretty impressed with Threet. There were a few bad passes, but for the most part he put the ball in the right spot. Compared to last year we finally have a QB who will be able to make some plays for us. Osweiler also had his moments and I believe he will be a very good starter for us when it's his turn.

The o-line has its question marks as always. That's what you get when you don't recruit anyone. The receivers should be good, but there's no excuse for those dropped passes. Some were way too easy not to catch. The penalties also will continue and that's on Erickson...everyone I know who has interned with the team has told me how easy-going he is. I expected better from him since he's had such a great past as coach, but the players will continue to play like they have.

I love Vontaze, but his ego has been fed enough...he needs to get to work and give us more than two tackles.

Overall, I am far more confident after this game than I was after Idaho State last season. We WILL be in a bowl game. The Pac-10 is very deep, but I'd put money on it. And Hoover, the stadium was far from empty during the first half. I was very satisfied with the crowd and for now the GameDay initiative we have started seems to have pulled some students in, but you are correct that the stupid penalties are unacceptable. They are unacceptable anywhere.

Edit: Also, we do have a great group of runners, but could really use a power back for goal line situations.

It won't be so easy for ASU to make a bowl game with 2 FCS teams on the schedule. Only one of those games can count towards bowl eligibility. The Pac 10 is still a pretty deep conference, Wazzu is really the only gimme game. I don't see them winning any of the road games with Wisconsin, Oregon State, Washington, Cal, USC, or Arizona. The home game with Oregon is unlikely as well, so home games with Wazzu, UCLA, and Stanford look like the only real win opportunities in my opinion.

I have more confidence in this team then. The offense will be much improved and I see the D continuing to be top 2 in the conference. We lost quite a few close games last season because of Sullivan's ineptitude. I see us competing well with every single one of those teams, Arizona because rivalry games are unpredictable. Oregon and USC are the only games that I would immediately give us a loss and who knows where USC will be at with their motivation in the final game. This is a good team we have here. 7 wins is realistic and I can see more possibly. We will see, but I see this squad surprising some people and if the underclassmen stay, making a serious run next season.

It's unfortunate we couldn't get San Jose State over PS though to boost our chances.

Having a Weber healthy probably helps us more than the change in QB will. I agree that we've improved somewhat and that we're not likely to lose as many close games this season but from the looks of it, most of the Pac-10 has improved at least as much as we have. Add in the 2 FCS games and the almost definite loss at Wisconsin and I think we're staying home again this bowl season.

Bolded for inaccuracy. Sorry man, that stadium was reminiscent of the days when the Cardinals used to play there.

Weber helps us greatly, but I think people forget how damaging Sullivan was to our chances...such as his 30-some% passing that lost us the Georgia game and countless missed opportunities. Threet will surprise when Pac-10 play begins...even if he is a no-good Laker fan

I was there...attendance was over 43,000. Nothing to write home about, but it was against Portland State. I was impressed, and the students actually cared and all showed up.

That was the paid attendance but there certainly weren't that many there. Probably half that.

Again, not from what I saw. Definitely far more than half of that... I'll take some camera phone pictures for you next time...just kidding, I'm sure you were there. A lot of people probably left early, but it was a good crowd at the start. I saw some really weak crowds last season and this wasn't one of them.
I gave you both what I saw and the attendance numbers...it's a pointless thing to argue further. The stadium can seat over 30,000 more than that I believe, so it would still have looked somewhat empty.

Largest crowd for an ASU game was 74,963, so if 43,000 fans were in the stadium...that would already leave 31,963 empty seats. That would be more than enough room for the 25,907 fans in Ohio that attended the Toledo/Arizona game.
