Sunderland's Liam Lawrence scored late on to clinch a 1-0 win over Seattle Sounders on their North American tour.

Lawrence's 80th-minute shot hit the bar and was adjudged to have crossed the line after deliberations by officials. New goalkeeper Kelvin Davis pulled off two fine saves early on in the game to deny the Sounders. Nyron Nosworthy, Dean Whitehead and Stephen Elliott all went close, while Jonathan Stead looked lively after coming on as a second-half substitute.
