Sam Shields - by far the best of the bunch but major concussion issues. If he can get cleared, this would be a very solid 1 year prove it deal (we can offer him a guaranteed starting spot on a very good defense).

Jason McCourty - probably not any better than Cooper but Cooper beat out all the current guys on our roster.

We have to get someone who can play on the outside. We have tons of slot corner options now.

Maybe ARZ should consider dealing for Malcolm Butler now that NO isn't going to be trading for him now after taking Lattimore in draft?

I think the team has made it abundantly clear they like who they have at CB2. I also think they're loony toons, but hey, I'm not Keim.

The question becomes... What do we really expect from the number 2 corner??? I'm asking because I know what I expect from them, but want to hear from all of you.

1) Do we expect PatP level productivity? If so, that's not going to happen without spending elite CB $, which ain't happening.

2) Do we expect the #2 to never get beat or give up a big play? Again, not going to happen. Every CB including the great Dick Sherman gives up a big catch now and then.

3) Or do we just want someone who is mostly able to stay with his assignment, look back for the ball, give up an occasional catch, and not miss tackles after the catch? If this is your guy, I think we already have someone like this on the roster.

Thoughts???

Chris Johnson, RB
Jim Dray, TE
Jerraud Powers, CB / Mike Jenkins, CB

This roster needs another solid running back, and tight end, IMO.

ARZ took TJ Logan in Round 5 so I don't think they are in the market for another RB. ARZ could have had Bucky Hodges in Round 5 as well but decided to take an OT so maybe they aren't looking for another TE. Keim needs to find a long term #2 CB option as its been a revolving door the last couple of years, solid not spectacular is what we need. Unless Keim wants to be scrambling during the season to find a #2 CB like last year after the Williams / Bethel fiasco then he needs to act now.

I fully expect Kiem to add a CB by trade or find a vet that gets cut. No way we leave that spot a huge weakness we have addressed most every other spots.

Brandon Flowers would be as good of an option as any at CB.
Tramaine Brock as well.

I agree a RB should be considered.

I like Barnidge, but he has struggled to stay healthy. Dray might be the best option.

Brock was arrested for DV, I don't think the cards would touch him.

Greg Toler is still out there

Brandon Flowers struggles in man heavy schemes so he wouldn't be a good fit in our secondary.

There were 56 DBs selected in the draft this year. I'm guessing that over the next couple of months a few expensive Veteran CBs will be let go to make cap space. This is where Keim can snag an experienced Vet on a one year prove it deal.
This is his MO so I can see this happen. Just depends on who we can get and for how much. But we do need to bring someone in for depth or to start with the young guys for depth.

Shields and Flowers are the best options

and by "best" I mean bottom of the barrel. We are in some dire straights here. We positively cannot go into the season with Bethel/Bwilliams at #2.

don't be surprised if Harlan Miller is the starting #2 CB come opening day
Or Bouka according to Mitch who likes him. Won't put anything past this coaching staff. We still don't know much about Miller and Bouka at CB until preseason games come around.

Count me in the Bouka-might-be-an-option category. The reason is that last year when he signed, there was an article about having a plan for him. There were a few teams looking to sign him, but he chose us. Then he got magically injured, thereby allowing us to put him on the DL to store him there for the year. An option, at least.

I still do not understand why we didn't keep Fells for a measley $1.5 mill. He was a solid contributor as a backup, and we have plenty of cap room. I'm not complaining about the rest of our FA we let go, but this was a good low budget player.
