2021 - Prove It
I don't know. I think that we added the best player to our OL, which will make everyone else better and improve the offense marginally on every down.
I don't know how you could characterize Palmer as only "arguably" an upgrade. Maybe it's not a clear upgrade over Kolb (and I'm guessing this is where the argument comes from), but Kolb can't play a half-dozen games in a row. He's a clear, massive upgrade over Lindley and Skelton.
I'm not sure the Cards added 10 ppg to the offense, but I think we managed 5 or 6, at least.
IMO, it's really, really difficult to evaluate the offensive skill position players when the QBs were so utterly dreadful for the entire year. I watched the film, and defenses were playing us with one-high safety and everyone else within seven yards of the LOS, and the offense couldn't do anything to capitalize on that. Our quarterbacks were so terrible.
Yeah, to me the offense is still a mystery. Our QB situation was so bad last year that Fitzgerald struggled which says something. That being said, we still don't know how much improved QB will benefit Roberts, Floyd and Housler. Will the running game improve enough to bring safeties up in the box? Will the addition of Cooper and two-TE sets bring the offensive line together or will it just highlight other weak players?
In the end, QBs normally make all of the difference. I have to believe that, given time, Palmer can be a top 15 QB if Fitzgerald, Floyd, Roberts and Housler are the players that they should be. The biggest question marks are the offensive line, MIchael Floyd and Rob Housler for me. Personally, I think the offensive line will still struggle at times, but will be more consistent. As for Floyd and Housler, if they can't flourish with a competant QB and Fitzgerald on the field, they aren't made for this league.
