I was watching the pregame show on the NFL Channel yesterday & Faulk was pretty jazzed about Powell. He flat out said that he's the best RB on our roster, & that includes both Wells & Williams. He said that Powell will make it difficult for Wells & Williams to see the field next year. I liked what I saw from the guy during the preseason, but I haven't sat & watched yesterday's game yet. Thoughts???

He looked pretty good against the Bills. But the Bills make all RBs look good.

Powell will need to continue to put up decent numbers before I call him the real deal.

It's early but he showed good flashes yesterday. He has good vision and cutting ability and can make people miss. He has a chance now.

Unlike many of our previous pre season wonders Powell actually ran yesterday like he did in all but one of the practice games. Did not know until yesterday that Powell led the NFL in rushing this pre season.

He ran very well and is elusive but ideally would be a change of pace back with somebody bigger like a healthy Wells.

he's got a weird running style he seems to make cuts that are at times so severe he loses his momentum, but somehow keeps his balance?

I'm still skeptical but he impressed me yesterday he did run the ball much better.

He will have to keep going to get that kind of talk. But the guy finds holes and he is hard to get a clean hit on. He also has great balance. So far he is running like he did in preseason.

I like the way he plays the game hard and fast. The only thing that got me very angry yesterday is why he wasn't in on our last failed drive. Howell run no gain, Howell pass dropped!

The Cards had a great screen setup and LSH dropped it, Skelton was like really? He didn't say anything but it hit the guy in the hands, shortly after that ballgame on the interception.

From what I saw he's the only RB in a long time that I didn't expect to just get mauled 5 yards back every carry.

The thing I see with Powell and he reminds me nothing of Edge except for this is he makes the first guy miss. Edge did that when he got here the first guy in the backfield never got him so where Arrington lost 3 yards, Edge gained a yard.

Powell was doing that yesterday the first guy doesn't get him so even on the negative plays he loses less. More decisive than Williams was.

But it was Buffalo so I hope it's real but I'm leery.

The only drawback that I see with Powell is that he has a lack of a top end gear. He appears to be vulnerable to be caught from behind, but other than that he has impressed me even with our subpar OL.

Totally agree. Its' what I mean by he makes cuts that are so extreme he loses momentum. He's shifty, but he's not LeSean mcCoy shifty where he can cut without losing his speed.

Powell does and then he gets caught. but he's gaining enough yards to be useful if yesterday is "real" and while you want a breakaway threat I'll take a kid that can just get 3 yards when there's only 1 yard there, which he did several times yesterday.

You cant have a power run game (Wells) with no OLine push. Powell played well yesterday... I've wanted to see him on the field since preseason. He doesn't require holes in order to sneak his way into positive yardage.

It is like this. The Bills run defense is not very good, but our OL is far worse. Powell is a keeper, and the kid could do some major damage to a defense if given some holes. Powell has also shown something that so far Wells and Williams have not, this kid has big play ability with some speed and he was so close to taking one to the house against the Bills. This OL if lucky will get one block but seldom do they get to the second level and Powell as any back needs that in my opinion.

Our O line is so terrible anything he does is pretty much on his own, I think if you appy that adjustment factor what he did is even more impressive even if the Bills are bad at stopping the run our O line is terrible so terrible trumps just bad and means once you apply that conversion factor he could be a top 5 rushing talent.... :D

It's a great find for basically a practice squad guy no matter what.

Our O line is painful to watch, they are just getting mauled, as in the fact they know when to go and have that advantage vaporizes in about .5 seconds, all their momentum goes up in a puff of smoke and they are blown backwards into the backfield before the QB can even take two steps away from center.

I've honestly never seen anything like it in the pro game, I've seen it a lot in High School games where one team is just woefully overmatched.

I've seen our Oline be bad don't get me wrong, I've seen them beaten, mostly by rushers who shoot gaps but that's not what I'm talking about, I'm talking about properly engaging the DT or DE and still getting RUN OVER!

WiPo isn't our best running back talent wise.

He's OUR BEST running back for our OFFENSIVE LINE.

Our OL sucks at both pass and run blocking now. Every guy is getting hit right after the handoff. None of them have a shot at being consistently good. But at least WiPo seems to be able navigate in close quarters. That's why he's the best with our line.

The thing is, our line is going to have to be revamped. They may of had other ideas, but all that goes out the window when your OL is as bad as it is. Snyder hasn't been able to show any pulling prowess. He is only showing his sucking prowess. Our tackles are god awful. They were holding up the first few weeks. I had hope. But also part of me was thinking, why weren't the first few teams going after us like they did in the preseason? Well they are now. Throughout at it all, our run game has sucked.

So yes, if Powell doesn't start until Beanie's return it's a travesty. Even then I believe he needs to get a significant amount of carries. Close to split. LSH is a change of pace back and a pass catching threat. When he catches it.

The thing killing us isn't just the 2-3 yard carries. It's the -2 yard carries. The negative 5 yard carries. To be caught from behind usually means you have to be out beyond that. I'm not worried about a guy who gets caught 15-40 yards downfield, I'm worried about the rb that can't get out of the -2 to +2 zone. WiPo at least shows a good knack to turn -2 into +2, and better than that into more.

He was the one smile on my face at the end of the game. We might have finally found the best running back for this O-ffensive line. We needed to.

The biggest difference that I saw is that they actually ran plays designed to go outside of the tackles with Powell several times. I can't remember more that a handfull of runs to the outside in all the previous games combined.

I think he could easily be McCoy good. His cutbacks and jukes are among the best in the league. Like you said, he pulls moves that a human couldn't stay on their feet from. If he tones that down slightly, he should be able to still make great moves without losing so much speed. I'm very excited to see him getting on the field. Depending on his durability, I could see him getting a lot of touches, even when Beanie returns next month

me too. I wanted to see him and Byrd get a shot this year. I'm sad to see how his shot came (with injury to our top 2 RBs), but am happy he actually did get his shot. He is who I thought he was

I don't know... he may be. Wells and Williams are better overall, but I think it's more to do with physical size. Powell may have the most absolute raw running talent

Not LSH though.

There is some truth to WiPow the best RB right now on the roster. He definitely looks way better than Williams. I don't think he is better than a healthy Beanie.

True. He did look good against the Bills. I even smiled once or twice at getting to see a Cardinal RB gain positive yards.

Totally agree. I've been screaming about the O-lines ineptitude for years now but this is a new low.

Powell is our best RB (per an indonesian tribesman whos never made contact with the modern world before)

Powell is our best RB (per the clone of a 10,000 year old caveman who was perfectly preserved in the polar ice caps and thus enabled scientists to get a complete sample of his DNA genome.)

Powell is our best RB ( per Russ Grimm)

Powell is our best RB ( per the Deep Think supercomputer from The HitchHikers guide to the galaxy, who took 3 million years to ponder this brainbusting question)

Wrong Bodha, our best running back according to Douglas Adams would answer the question by having the number 42 on his jersey :)
