Practice Squad/Tryouts

Does anyone know how much money practice squad players make. How many spots are there, and if any of these player actually ever make it on an NFL team? Are there ever any tryouts for guys who played in college but didnt get drafted or signed? Or just guys who are great atheltes that can try out and make a the squad?

Money varies depending on the player, if you are already under contract, you still make that amount.
There are four players on the practice squad.
Quite often guys make the jump from PS to roster, but not always are they impactful.
Teams are free to sign anyone that didn't get drafted the day after the draft, they are undrafted free agents.
As far as I know, no one ever has "open" tryouts for anybody to try out.
