Every team except The Cards,Jets and Browns have named their practice squads.
Wonder what the hold up?

The first player signed to the Cardinal Practice Squad is FB Fui Vakapuna, who was released by the Cincinatti Bengals. Vakapuna is 5' 11", 245 lbs, drafted in the 7th round out of BYU.

I wonder if he is related to Vai Sikahema?

Your football team just isn't a football team until you have at minimum 2 Samoans on it.

So we know 2 out of the 8 PS guys so far. A gaurd and a FB. The rest has got to be defense heavy considering we only have 23 defensive players on the top 53.

Fui got beat out by eric pressley. an undrafted rookie.

The knock on him is he isn't a mauler. He is more of an athletic guy.

I haven't been impressed with anyone on the Hard Knocks show this year.

although I am looking at runpee.com every now and then.

Canfield his on his way to the Cardinals complex to sign his practice squad contract this afternoon. He his very happy that he was able to remain in Arizona!

Thanks for the news, and I am glad to have him here.

The PS should be announced tomorrow, although things could keep changing. As far as bringing back a vet after week 1, I think Hobson and Fowler could be on that list unless they sign elsewhere. The thing is, before that happens we will have played a REAL game and all of this will become very secondary to what we are thinking.

I'm almost certain that neither Hobson or Fowler are PS eligible. I do expect both to be brought back after week one, but am far from certain about it. Just based on their PS play.

I may be wrong, but I'm guessing the reason why we, the Jets and the Browns are "last to announce" is because PS and 53 man roster decisions are interrelated (i.e. who we keep on one list may have a bearing on who we keep, add or release on the other).

It's hard to put into words, but here goes: If you feel you have the right guy on your PS at a specific position, you might be less inclined to keep an surplus guy at that position on the 53. Or if you really really like a FA but have no place to put him, you might be more willing to cut a guy on the 53 (at a given position) because you know that, depthwise, your butt is covered on the PS.

I think the Cards are tweaking both lists and going back and forth until they arrive at the optimum mix of 53 + 8 players...and they're using every remaining second available to do this.

The Redskins signed Onrea Jones to their practice squad. I would have liked to see him stick around here, but he might actually make their active roster at some point this year. .

That sucks. I really liked him. Moreso then Long for sure.

O Jones did some math and went with a team not loaded with WR talent. Plus he may a bit peaved about L Long getting the nod over him by the Cards. So even if the Cards tried to sign him to the PS he took a "better" offer.

Well according to Urbans blog we might not even know about it today either. Even though there is a practice today. So unless one of the media feels the need to try and figure out who is on the field or who is not, we wont know until tomorrow when the FO opens their doors again after the Labor day Holiday.:bang:

Walmart's Open Today, but....

And the friendly, venerable man who greets you at the door is getting time and a half today...

But there's no friendly, venerable man (Mr. B) greeting anyone at the Cardinals' front office today, because...the office is closed.

Unreal.

No announcements made about the roster or practice squad...and the front office isn't even open.

Game one is a week from YESTERDAY.

Does anyone else get the sense that the Cardinals don't really have a sense of the talent around the rest of the league?

Do the Cardinals even recognize the lack of pass rushers on the roster?

Word is they signed a FB from the Bengals to the PS...maybe one of the scouts happened to watch Hard Knocks. Then again, he probably missed the segment where this young FB was having trouble blocking anyone.

They lose Cody Brown...and the Cardinals' answer last week was to sign David Holloway, who barely even qualifies as a pass rusher. Holloway was cut last Friday. But, Victor Hobson who garnered a rare 2 sacks in the last pre-season game was packing his bags with Hollway.

Think of this: Hobson's 2 sacks is almost HALF the number of sacks that Bertrand Berry made last year while leading the team with five. But, hey, keeping Hobson would have guaranteed his contract and the Cardinals can't have that. It's not shrewd business.

In fact, did the Cardinals get their cuts in early so the front office could take the long weekend?

But, hey Walmart is open today...

Just because they aren't announcing anything doesn't mean the team isn't actively putting the PS and final roster together. They most assuredly are.

Obviously, just sounds like the media dept is closed to me. We've already heard of 2 PS signings(without an official confirmation by the team) and I am sure they've signed the whole squad but we just haven't had them leaked out yet.

I was being a tad facetious...but...still...it's the ultimate teaser: Whiz says stay tuned, that there should be some roster tweaking over the weekend...so idiots like me are checking the wires every ten minutes...for what? Not even a PS announcement.

Plus more importantly the team is practicing. The only one the FO being closed is effecting is us obssessed fans who have yet to head out to the BBQ.

I'm right there with you.

If anyone else is doing the same it should be Exhibit A that you maybe just a tad more invested then the regular fan.:)

Maybe there's a trade in the works which is causing the club to be silent.

It is taking so long because half of them are brand new to the team, thus we have to wait for physicals. Until the physical is complete they don't want to announce it.

Dykes, Fields, Gant, and Canfield are the first 4 officially announced.

You got one word wrong in that quote and it makes a big difference. He didn't say "should be", he say "could be". As in Maybe.

50 percent of the practice squad

The Cardinals have half their practice squad: defensive lineman Keilen Dykes, receiver Ed Gant, defensive end Alex Field and guard Trevor Canfield. The other four players are in a holding pattern until they pass physicals, meaning all four guys are new to the team. I don’t have names yet, but because they are new, it means some of the holdover possibilities – kick returner Michael Ray Garvin (who is recovering from knee surgery, so he wasn’t coming back right away anyway) or quarterback Tyler Palko – aren’t coming back. Hopefully, we’ll know who the four new guys are by the end of the day.

I would have perferred my boy Onrea Jones rather then Ed Gant and maybe even taken a flyer on Palko again but I have to say I am very excited there are 4 new guys coming. Anyone else holding out hope for that Davis kidf from Pitt?
