1. Roster Envy. Have you noticed that even though the Cardinals' roster is at 90, the players they cut are quickly claimed by other teams? As was the case this week with WR Kevin Smith of Washington. The fact is that the Cardinals, under the leadership of GM Steve Keim, are being recognized around the league for their ability to identify and sign talent.

2. The Juke and Count Massie. There's some sweet jazz being played in the Cardinals' offense with the emergence of Ellington in the backfield and Massie at right tackle. Even though Massie was slow to pick up the offense last year, the experience Massie garnered as a blocking TE has enabled him to play with greater purpose, understanding and confidence this year.

3. Demens and Minter = Salt and Pepper. I can see these two fresh-legged and aggressive ILBers running away with the two starting jobs at ILB. Why? They are the two best, most physical, down-hill tacklers of the group. Larry Foote should be a valuable third ILB...and I expect quite a battle for the 4th ILB spot between Keenan Clayton and Glenn Carson. While i could be mistaken, I don't see Lorenzo Alexander or Ernie Sims panning out at ILB, as neither of them will prove to be physical enough, like my faves, Kevin "Pepper" Minter....and DemensMyBoys!

4. What Can Brown Do For You? Can you imagine what a great draft this could be if John Brown is just as good or even better than Brandin Cooks? You just know, BA would have wanted to get his hands on Cooks who was sitting pretty at #20. But, what a coup it could be if John Brown, who is just as fast and is a bigger target than Cooks, can be the big speed threat Y.A. Hilton-type WR in BA's offense who enabled Steve Keim to trade down and go ahead and take SS Deone Bucannon instead. As for Bucannon, not only should he make an impact at SS from day one, I have a hunch that he is going to be the 3rd and 4th down nickel/dime ILB who will be used to blitz, to cover RBs and at times to shadow Wilson and Kaepernick. Here is a guy who can take the romance out of the QB scramble!

5. Giving Defenses Fitz. A very interesting development on the offense this year is how the speed element will affect Larry Fitzgerald's production. It is going to force teams to concede single coverage on Fitz. On the one hand that should create more opportunities for Fitz, yet on the other, with all the mismatches that BA will create for the likes of Michael Floyd, The Juke, Ted Ginn Jr., John Brown, Rob Housler, John Carlson, Troy Niklas, Juron Brown and Jake Ballard, the receiving menu is so extensive that there could be games where Fitz gets a handful of passes thrown his way. Thus, Fitz's best value may be in making timely, clutch plays---in other words, making more of less.

6. Matchbox 49. One of the most intriguing scenarios that Todd Bowles and his coaches are already planning for is how to match their personnel up versus the 49ers' receivers. Here's the forecast that may make the most sense:

Crabtree---Peterson
Davis---Cromartie
Boldin---Mathieu
Ellington---Powers

If you see a better combo---please share. It's going to be very interesting to see how the Cardinals get after the 49ers this year.

7. Big Benard. Marcus Benard is a guy that i think is going to play a huge role for the Cardinals as the nickel edge rusher opposite John Abraham. he came on pretty well in that role last year and even though he's not big in stature at 6-2, 256, he has the edge quickness the team needs. Big role. The question is, is there anyone on the roster who can challenge him? I am particularly curious to see what kind of camp Adrian Tracy has---and I even think he's versatile enough to contribute at WILB if need be. Of course, it will be very interesting too see if Acho and/or Okafor can make a splash.

There are some very interesting spots on the Team to watch for. I'm excited about how the running backs set up. Also wr, and LB. Finally offensive line right side. Will it be a great year as we all hope?

Nice write up Mitch. I agree that Massie should do well for us. Also our receiving corps looks really good this year. I am worried about our running game if Ellington were to go down. I expect Acho to start and play well this year and I think Okafor will be in the rotation. I see Okafor as a better version of Acho next year. I am looking forward to watching Martin develop at DE. I look for him to be Docketts replacement down the road.

I would be leary of HB playing man to man on Boldin - that is scary.

I hadn't noticed and thanks for the info.

My hopes and expectations as well.

3. Demens and Minter = Salt and Pepper. I can see these two fresh-legged and aggressive ILBers running away with the two starting jobs at ILB. Why? They are the two best, most physical, down-hill tacklers of the group. This is the hotspot of concern about the Cards this year. Hopefully Minter is worthy of his draft status and SK has found a decent second ILBer.

4. What Can Brown Do For You? Can you imagine what a great draft this could be if John Brown is just as good or even better than Brandin Cooks? You just know, BA would have wanted to get his hands on Cooks who was sitting pretty at #20. I'm really excited to see what Ginn and Brown can do in BA's offense. Bucannon better be worthy of a #1 pick as this D will need him to be a player immediately.

It will be fun to see how Fitz can exploit opposing D's with the extra fire power BASK has assembled. I can't wait to see how Fitz and Floyd attack opposing D's with Brown and Ginn taking the tops of D's. Then factor in Juke and improve TE's and we better be a top 5 offense.

6. Matchbox 49. One of the most intriguing scenarios that Todd Bowles and his coaches are already planning for is how to match their personnel up versus the 49ers' receivers. Here's the forecast that may make the most sense:

Boldin on HB is a concern for me. Not sure who would be a better matchup. Let's go all HB, HB doesn't care and will take on much bigger foes and simply beat them.

7. Big Benard. Marcus Benard is a guy that i think is going to play a huge role for the Cardinals as the nickel edge rusher opposite John Abraham. he came on pretty well in that role last year and even though he's not big in stature at 6-2, 256, he has the edge quickness the team needs. Benard did well for us but I don't think he is the answer, Acho, Okafor or Martin need to bring some pass rushing results to the team.

I'm still frustrated that SK couldn't find a way to draft a push rushing prospect

Ellington isn't on SF. Good read though. I hope you're right at ILB. Would shore up the only position of concern for me

BA seems high on Okafor. Of course it could be a ploy, in order to send a message to another OLB. But if he's straight talking, he's saying that AO has stood out in Camp.

This year's intrigue will rest primarily in the four people selected to play linebacker. We've got a bunch of names, let's see who comes out on top.

It will be interesting to see how the new rookies develop, now that we don't need to rush them all onto the field right away. Bucannon, yes, but the rest can ease in over the next year or so. I think Martin and Stinson will be significant parts of our DL in the future. Nicklas, Bucannon, and maybe Brown can contribute immediately.

Our starters spots, pending recovery from injury, are set outside of the LB's and RT.

With Okafor and Martin OLB options I'm curious if Acho could play inside.

OK; that had me sitting up.

Please Mr. Honey-Badger, show old-man Boldin the virtues of retirement; I am sick of that piece of history.

I would have to agree with you there Redheart. Still, one does have to admire what a career Boldin has managed. We sure whiffed on that one. He has persevered and excelled, everywhere he has played, and has set the example for individual play. If only his mind-set was oriented to 'team' as much as it was to 'self'.

Mitch,

Will the Cardinals carry Niklas, Carlson, Ballard and Houser? Will we keep 4 tight ends?

Agree; I think Bernard was an average to below average starter, but good depth. The team will be looking for more out of their starting OLB and with so much drafted youth on the team, I doubt they will keep a journeymen (Bernard) over drafted youth with some upside (Okafor and Acho). He certainly won't beat out Abraham or Shaughnessy.

I'm with you on the frustration for not taking a pass rush prospect, but I think the only golden chance to take one was in round one and I think the value and need were greater for taking Bucannon. The Cardinals were proven correct, because by the time they were on the clock again, the safety talent wasn't there.

Also the OLB pass rush talent was gone as well in round 2, so the Cardinals wisely took the best player on their board.

Like to see Bethel and Jefferson in the mix. Believe there was some talk of giving Bethel the chance audition for the CB spot which was given over to Cromartie when he signed. Tony Jefferson possibility at FS.

Would also like to see 'Nine-Fingers Johnson' make the leap and compete for a starter's role. He had his most productive year last year.

Mitch, I hope you are right about Demons and Minter running away with the starting jobs. I would love to see that come to fruition and see the fresh legs working away in the middle. I know that they liked Demons enough to hide him on the PS. How great would it be to see him win a starting slot?

I agree with everything you posted and my frustration stems from seemingly countless years of the Cards not spending high enough draft capital on a pass rusher.

Does Martin stand a chance of being a pass rushing demon? Combine measurables would indicate he could be but I heard he already put on 10 lbs and from what I've read they are looking at him as a DE.
