For those that believe in fate:
The SUNS went to the NBA Finals in '76, then again 17 years later in '93.
It's been 17 years since '93.
Third time's a charm?

I hope your right although I tried using that logic in 2006 with ASU and the RoseBowl invites. Didnt work out that way.

Lakers in 6

Unfortunately I think you may be right. I'll be routing for you, but I think you may have the same problem Utah did, only you're better than them. Bynum, Odom and Gasol were the keys to the Lakers dominance of Utah because of Utah's lack of paint players. They are the keys in this series too. Of course having Coby Bryant doesn't help, but their interior defense/offense is really the tipping point.

I hope you beat them...I'm sure almost all of us from San Antonio do, but it's going to be hard to do.

Looks like Kobe might be giving a Jordan-esque HoF speech someday. The Suns have some motivation, too. No one on the Suns has a title, and all have watch Kobe win multiple titles. The only players left from the previous matchups are Nash and Amar'e, and both should be equally as motivated as Kobe to get to the finals.

Also, the article mentions Kobe's frustration after those defeats to the Suns, but it doesn't mention his frustration during the series. Wasn't it '06 when Kobe essentially folded tent? Maybe the Suns can get him off his game again...

From what I have seen of the Lakers they are not really playing that well.
They've looked just as good as us. Handled a OKC team that was better than the one-legged Roy Blazers in six and then swept a Jazz team that's better than SAS even without Okur. The Lakers have been pretty impressive thus far.

The Suns are on an upward trend and improving.
Yes, although as well all know momentum is only as good as tomorrow's starting pitcher. Game 1 at Staples will be very difficult.

The Suns have better team chemistry and a deeper bench.
Agreed here, but the Lakers have superior talent in the starting five and considerably more big game experience. It's a trade-off.

They will need to keep shooting well and get RoLo back to protect the paint.
Rolo is obvious, we honestly don't have the size to beat the Lakers without him.

They will need to improve their past performances to beat the Lakers but I do think they can do it.
I agree, but it won't be easy. We're going to need to play our asses off and get some breaks like any team that wins a series they do not have HCA.

I see it going seven where anything can happen, but betting against the Lakers in a Game 7 in LA is pretty tough to do but stranger things have happened.

I completely disagree here. Utah is better than Spurs!!!! Maybe LA make them look better.
OKC played Portland in a seeding "playoff implication" matchup that decides who takes the 8 seed at the end of reg season and the Blazers beat OKC without ROY.

Still shaking my head in bewilderment that Jazz is better than Spurs!!

I LOVE this Suns team... I love their heart, their hustle, the fact that they're all good guys and I LOATHE the Lakers - pretty much the exact opposite of that... they've got guys who possibly rape/definitely snitch on people (we all know who here), beat dogs/women/people (Ron Artest) and are complete and utter sanctimonious pricks (Colonel Sanders) and if this were a movie, the good guy would WIN and overcome all obstacles. Sadly it's not a movie and in real life, the bad guys usually win. It pains me to say this and will be even more painful to experience it in LA where pretty much EVERYONE is already talking about how the Lakers match-up with Orlando, but life is not a movie.

Lakers in 6.

Then, again, this whole thing WILL play out in Hollywood...

I have to go with 4 - 2 Suns. If can spread the floor and Robin can get back to health we should be able to take one on the road in each stop. If not it could be ugly as the Lakers guards will be pushing and holding on Nash all series.

I disagree

You alluded to big game experience. San Antonio has just as much big game experience as the Lakers and were arguably one of the best 7 seeds ever. SA has the tendency to play lackadaisical during the regular season and turn on the jets during the playoffs. Remember that Parker was out much of the season with a busted hand.

As for OKC v. Blazers. Id call this a wash. Most of the players on the Thunder had never played beyond mid April and their first taste of the playoffs was against the defending champs. Not the ideal introduction to team success if you ask me.

With the Blazers, they had 3 starting centers injured and Roy out towards the end and still managed to take a 6th seed. Even w/o Roy, they are a more well rounded team than the Thunder. Blazers have size with the likes of Camby and Aldridge. The Thunder don't.

With the Lakers and the Suns having played a total of 10 games each in the playoffs and having pretty much identical rests between games, the scale is finally balanced unlike during the regular season where our first 2 meetings against them were the second half of a back to back.

In addition, I have the Lakers in 7 but obviously hope I am eating a big chunk of crow in the next 2 weeks.

Really hope I am wrong, but I have Lakers in 6. I just think they are too long up front for us to deal with. I hope that Nash, J-Rich, Dudley, Frye, Barbosa and Dragic are able to just rain threes on them and force them to go small to compete. If we can do that, then I think we can win in 6, but if this thing goes back to LA for game 7 they are gonna shoot 83FTs to our 2.

My heart says Suns in 7 but my head says Lakers in 6 or 7. We just don't have the size to match up with the Lakers. Even if we get Lopez back, there is ZERO chance he will be in any basketball shape before the series is out. We are not playing an injury depleted Portland or a Spurs team on the downside of the hill. This is the defending champs.

What that means to me is that we will end up playing small ball by default in this series. I don't think people realize how huge a lineup Bynum, Gasol and Odom really is and how that will have an impact on our post defense and rebounding. Now you throw that guy named Kobe in the mix and vets like Derek.

Honestly, I hope I am wrong but anybody that thinks this series is going to be anything like the first 2 rounds is in fantasy land IMO. The Suns are going to have to be perfect and the bench will have to produce big time.

I voted Suns 4-0 only because there was no option for Suns winning 3-0.. The Suns are demoralize the Lakers the first three games that the Lakers will forfeit game 4.. Yaaa budddy! It will be unprecidented..

Suns were not picked to make the playoffs this year- We made it
Suns were supposedly not going to score much against Portland's defense- We did that and plenty
Suns were picked by most to get eliminated by the Spurs easily- We swept them
Suns are now against odds to lose to the Lakers and their vaunted big men- TBD

But just as this season as gone, our chances to beat the odds are better than ever. I'd like to see their vaunted big men run around and chase our three pointer shooters when we expose their weak pick and roll defense. :)

Smiling all the way to the finals!!

If the Suns are going to win, its in 6. A 7 game series goes to LA because of the HCA. So, I either pick against my Suns or go with the Suns in 6. 6 it is.

Sweeping a full strength Spurs team is a more impressive accomplishment than sweeping a hobbled Jazz team. I do believe the Suns would have handled the Jazz much more easily than they handled the Spurs. The Lakers had a harder time with the Jazz than the Suns had with the Spurs.

That bodes well. But it is all about matchups. Nash might be running the team better than he has ever done so. The Suns offense seems to score so easily. They end up with wide open shots and lanes to the basket. The Lakers have little margin for error on defense, and an offensive lapse will put them in the hole--just like with the Spurs.

If the Suns do not take care of the defensive glass, the margin for error for the Lakers becomes much larger.

Pick the Lakers to win, fine. But don't give them more credit then they deserve. They didn't "handle" OKC at all. They won game 2 in LA by 3 points and game 6 in OKC by 1.

That pretty much sums it up for me. Matchups or no, I find it difficult to believe that these Suns will lose 4 out of 7 games. It just hasn't happened since late January.

I expected to see some homer predictions in here. But when you start pointing to regular season success as why YOUR team is going to beat a much superior, championship team then: :biglaugh:

This series is over in 4-5. Maybe 6 if Phoenix is given a +35 free throw advantage like OKC was gifted at home.
