Just for fun, make a guess who the Suns sign this free agent period. This is not about who you want only who you believe we get (unless those lists are the same of course.)

My guess is:

Re-sign
Bledsoe
Tucker

Sign
Deng
Gasol

We don't appear to be making Gasol a priority:

RT @ramonashelburne: First calls into Pau Gasol tonight came from Lakers, Bulls, Mavs and Warriors

Re-sign Bledsoe. Sign Hayward and Hill. Goodbye to Tucker, Frye, Christmas, Smith and Randolph to make room for H&H plus Ennis, Warren and Boggy or maybe Brown.

That's what I think will happen, not my wish list.

No Lebron, no Kevin Love, no "big names" that aren't already here. But we will still improve.

PF appears to be our biggest need yet none of the realistic FAs seem to fill it. Maybe Ed Davis comes closest and even his team isn't too concerned about keeping him. I'm not too excited about this FA PF class.

I could see us just resigning our FAs and be done with it. Maybe McDonough will surprise me but that would more likely be with a trade rather than a FA acquisition.

I think Andray Blatche would be a decent signing in the frontcourt. He can play Center and Power Forward, if he doesn't get a deal higher than 5 million per year I'd be cool with signing him for 2-3 years.

Bledsoe tweeted a picture of himself in his Suns jersey but took it down.

My guess is that we already have an agreement with Bledsoe but they agreed to hold off on the final signature so that the Suns can have as much time as they need to use the capspace before re-signing him officially.

I think most have missed the point of this thread. Saying we will improve is not a guess. Talking about we need a PF is not a guess. Oh well...

Since my idea for this thread has already gone out the window....
They can't sign till the 10th, so holding off is a given. There is also no point in not announcing an agreement. If they have one they can sign it whenever they want after the 10th.

It sounds like you are right.

Wow. This is interesting. I believe the Suns can re-sign their own RFA without concern to the CAP but they must sign other FA players first to maintain their flexibility. So Bledsoe and Tucker (if signed) will likely be the last to sign.

Isn't that a violation? I don't think we have anything more than a general understanding of his intent and we've communicated nothing more than our own.

I cannot think that it is. He is a free agent and we are in the middle of free agency. How negotiations are carried out and what delays happen aren't that tightly regulated. Its just a trust thing between the two parties. Either could change their minds and there is no legal recourse.

Remember Carlos Boozer and Utah?

But he's restricted and still under contract with us. Only for a year, but still under contract.

seems to me, that would be sleight of hand to circumvent/maipulate the salary cap, no?

I still don't see how it is a violation. Bledsoe is a free agent. He can sign with whoever he wants for whatever he wants and whenever he wants. The league cannot say anything about it as long as the other team does not go over the cap. So if he wants to hold off, and give the Suns an opportunity based upon a word of mouth agreement, he can do that. His risk is that the Suns could withdraw their offer after other free agents are signed. Yes it is manipulation of the rules, but it is a loophole in the rules that the Suns can utilize. They are even on record as saying that they will sign other free agents before Bledsoe so that they can offer more. In other words, doing this is EXACTLY their plan and has been all along and they have made no secret of it.

If the question is whether we reached the agreement with Bledsoe BEFORE free agency started, I would imagine that would be really hard to police. There could be alot of "what if" conversations and then a verbal offer right after 9pm last night.

Oh well.

agreed. it's no more a violation then what the Heat did back in 2010 or what they might be planning to do now. It's working the system to your best advantage to try and win.

I thought it was a violation but I really don't know, hence the reason I posed it as a question.

Jeez... it's not a violation. Teams do this every year with their own free agents. They can go over the cap to sign their own with bird rights and so it only makes sense to sign outside guys first. It's the system and how it's designed to work. The Suns have zero reason to withhold any news of an agreement with Bledsoe. They can sign it at any time from the 10th on. The Suns have known what he wants in a contract and all they had to do was call him last night and say, we agree to your demands. We can sign on the 10th. They can withhold the news (not sure why they would) if they want too. Nothing in that scenario is a loophole or slight of hand and it's not even remotely like my issue with a bunch of stars taking far below their market value in order to build a super team and deny competition within the league. Nice try.

But isn't there a cap hold for RFAs? Where are our capologists?
