The guy with control of the roster, specifically the QB situation, was a problem. The guys who scouted and drafted the 2nd and 3rd round picks who aren't working out also were the problem. The guys who signed all the free agents who were let go after about a year or two also the problem. To put that on Graves alone, and not Whiz and Keim, is kinda dumb, right?
I'll give you the drafting part of it but look at how much different the approach is in free agency and obtaining QB's under Keim than it was with Graves.

Like it, or not, Graves was the final say in all personnel matters. He sat in the press conference and couldn't make it any more clear to anyone who was listening that he was the man in charge. Whiz had say on the final 53, and I'm sure had input on other matters, but with the way things changed this year, I think Graves was huge obstacle to the Cards improving their roster. I mean, who's ever heard of a GM that admittedly doesn't watch film? That's pretty mind blowing in itself.

Whisenhunt deserves a standing ovation when he returns home, for everything he did for the franchise. His last few years were painful, but he took us where we've never been. He changed the culture, the attitude of the players and front office. Most importantly, he changed Michael Bidwill forever. That taste of the playoffs and SB aren't going to leave Mike Bidwill and I think he's much more willing to spend because of Ken Whisenhunt.

Yep. The last few years sucked, but he had this franchise within 2mins of glory & peeps still hate on him...you're right, he gave Michael the thirst for the Lombardi Trophy no doubt.

We all loved the wonderful Whiz when we went super bowling. We loved the Whiz when we won the NFL Title 2008-2009. Give the guy a break. Wrong moves, not resigning guys and Bad mistakes when it came to QB's after Warner.
He gave us the biggest day in Cardinal history and almost won it all!

Give him a break and thank him for the memories!

So, you are saying to give Kurt Warner a standing ovation ? :D

I kid, I kid

Eh. Whizenhunt did a lot for this franchise....he also did a lot to keep it to the Cardinals status quo.

Does Denny Green get credit for building teams to get a new stadium ?

Agreed and well said. Whiz deserves his kudos.

My bitter self cannot give him more of a break than I gave him for 3 years while he coached his way out of a job. He used up his credit.

Sorry but I would give more credit to Todd Haley and Kurt Warner for carrying the team to the Super Bowl than Whiz. Whiz was along for the ride. I will give Whiz credit for picking Kurt over Matt at QB but after that he doesn't get much credit from me.

A 7 figure salary for just riding shotgun.

Those Bidwill's are generous folk.

I love this old debate. Warner was on the team '05 and '06 and the Cards were 5-11 both years. So if Warner was so great why didn't the Cards win then?

CKW gets enormous kudos for going 3 years without a 5-11 record. He got fired for going 5-11 with 'em and 5-11 without 'em.

Interesting and sad bit of Cardinal trivia. Every Cardinal HC since the NFL went to 16 games has had at least one season at either 4-12 or 5-11.

Before that the Cards equivalent was 4-9-1. Accomplished by four consecutive HC's. Lemm, Winner, Holloway and Coryell.

And finally the Cards went 8 years in a row with at least one tie game. '66-'73.

Also Larry Wilson was a great HC. His 2-1 record at the end of the '79 season enabled the Cards to finish 5-11. Way to go Larry!

Cause he wasn't wearing the magic gloves.

I guess the real hero is the Arizona Equipment Manager.

A: Denny Green. Coaching and coordinators play a significant role in the success of NFL franchises. Denny did a decent job of assembling talent, but he sure couldn't coach them up.
Don't forget how much Larry Fitzgerald improved under the coaching of Todd Haley.

Exactly my point. But many people don't want to give CKW any credit for Warner's resurgence or the Cardinals winning seasons. Also if it was just Haley why were the Cardinals just as successful in the regular season the year after he left.

Hmmmm....30+ year old QB a lot of people think is washed up. Could be a Super Bowl in SD's near future.

If we had Rivers, Turner and CKW the Kool Aid would be flowing like Niagara Falls around here. :p

Dang, San Diego's offense of 2011-2012 with our defense over the same time!!! 35-10 every Sunday in our favor. :koolaid:

Lol if Rivers is washed up, then Palmer is washed up too or even worse. Not Rivers fault that he has had the worst O line in football blocking for him the past 3 seasons.

And Chargers have Whiz, and pretty much all other Az coaches from last year (STs coach, QBs coach, Ron Milus and Chad Grimm)

Btw, Kevin Spencer sucks. Your guys STs must have been horrible under him or you were good inspire of him.

I think the Bolts starters will beat the Az starters but I expect Patrick Peterson to have at least 2 returns on the trash Chargers STs. (if not Peterson then whoever your return man is)

Worse than the Cards 5 zombies? I don't think so.
Hard to tell. Cardinals had bad QBs who actually held on to the ball longer than they should have etc. Sure they had a very bad OL too but the Chargers 2012 OL is among the top 10 worst OLs of all time imo. San Diego's starting LT was the worst graded LT in the histroy of PFF.

I was going to just let this go bye but then Duckjake poked the bear with his response. As he posted KW was not playing well before Whiz & Co arrived.

Haley did a good job as the OC but don't forget that Whiz's first year he was calling the plays and KW put up crazy good numbers after Leenart went down with the injury.

We go to the SB with Haley calling the plays but don't think Whiz was just in the corner playing with himself. They Haley gets the HC gig in KC and they proceed to stink it up while Whiz assumes the play calling again the we win the division again and win that record setting playoff game vs the Packers.

Whiz has won a SB as the OC of the Steelers.

Whiz's Cards won 12 games in a row from the 2010 & 2011 seasons without a legit NFL QB.

Whiz's first season with the Cards 8-8, then 9-7, then 10-6, then 5-11 and then 8-8 and finally another 5-11 season which as Duckjake has pointed out once or twice is the Cards usual win total. That alone should put Whiz in the HOF. I mean 6 total season as the HC and only two 5-11 seasons, that's well above the curve. :D

I think a change had to be made to keep the fan base engaged but I would have loved to see Whiz and Horton with Keim as the GM as well.

I think BA will do well and am very excited for this year as well.

Who said they did?

I just took what SD had last season and added CKW to make a group Cardinal fans would go crazy over. Of course in my scenario Turner would be OC and CKW head coach.
