I was never big on Lopez or Dragic and I am still not. Lopez is and always will be a big man who can't rebound. Honestly, this guy was never anything more then a project IMO. It's still possible the Suns can make him serviceable but the guy will never be starting center material IMO.

I hope I am wrong but something tells me the Suns search for our next legit center will continue for years to come (unless we make a trade). Our scouting department has been hit and miss. The guys that we did draft that could help (a la Rudy F, R Rondo) were traded away but were solid picks....oh and are contributing.

I have no idea what they had seen in Dragic or Lopez....especially since the Suns were bragging all offseason...these guys could contribute this year. Now Kerr admits on national radio a couple weeks ago that Dragic is not NBA ready and said Lopez is a work in progress and is not sure how much Lopez will contribute this year (barring injuries). The word "duh" comes to mind.

hated both picks at the time.

was skeptical of the suns enthusiasm for them.

hated the concept of drafting "play ready" players.

suns thought process that they were "play ready" was faulty.

have been proven right thus far on both players.

scares the hell outta me for the future of this team.

Sort of like drafting for need instead of best player available. Invariably best player available almost always wins. See Cardinals passing on Adian Petersen.

Terry Porter trashed Lopez yesterday. Said he isn't mentally ready for the games and is consistently missing defensive assignments and not boxing out.

He should be sent down to the NBADL to see how he likes life there. Maybe it will create some family jealousy with Robin being in the minor leagues.

Or how about give Robin a haircut and try to switch him for his brother Brook. Maybe NJ would not notice the difference until the game started. :D

Here is the story from KTAR

BSotS: Coach says Lopez not ready to play

Robin Lopez has not only under performed his twin in New Jersey, he's also not meeting his coach's expectations for a bench player.

After the Suns second day of practicing for over an hour-and-a-half, Terry Porter called Lopez out for not being ready to play.

"He doesn't seem to have the focus. Missing balls. Missing assignments on the defensive end. Missing box outs. He doesn't have the focus when he steps on the floor."

Robin, for his part agrees, saying that despite the rotations seeming erratic that he has to be mentally prepared whenever his name is called.

Perhaps Robin would do well to spend some time in Iowa and the Suns could sign Courtney Sims to a 10-day contract and give him a shot. I believe in Robin but he needs to get his head on straight and some time with the Iowa Energy might help. I would also LOVE to see what kind of rebounding numbers Robin put up in the D-League getting starters minutes. I am still not sure if he's got fundamental issues or if he's just not getting the time he needs. A few games in the D-League should tell us.

Anyone who regularly watches Pac 10 basketball knew Robin wasn't very good, Im not sure why this is a surprise to anyone.

I don't think it is a surprise to most posters. As I recall very few wanted the Suns to draft Robin Lopez but Steve Kerr was the head honcho, the top dog, the boss, the big enchilada...

Your certainly right, I seem to recall most folks (myself included) being anti Lopez and anti Kerrs insane thoughts on how an organization should be built.

Suns just need a coach that can develop young players.

Speaking of which, Cartwright has been very quiet regarding his role with the bigs' development. If Lopez doesn't improve in the D-League I would like him to explain just what he has been doing with the young dud of a center.

Good for Porter calling him out. I am glad to see Suns have a coach who calls player out instead of having his brother write them love letters. Also, good for Lopez for taking criticism well.

You do realize Dan D'Antoni speaks Portugese, right? I hardly see how using a skill like that is silly, or is 'love letters'. LB did very well while Dan was here, so I think your criticism is pretty lame.

You have to understand that sir stephan32 just doesnt understand that initial learning of a new language begins in writing. But also well, he is a marbury fan obviously, that should explain the rest.

While youre at it ask him why amare still doesnt box, play smart D on the pick and roll. I mean all amare needed was a little coaching on D. SInce that obviously hasnt happened, just get a new asst for big man coach.

I speak thee languages fluently, and learning the fourth. Please don't lecture me about learning a new language. Why don't you just go hug your D'Antoni picture and bow down at the shrine you have built for him?

I think Lopez should have to get a close haircut and sent to the NBADL. It probably won't help Lopez or the Suns but it would make me feel better.

More to the point, the Suns really lack any kind of inside game without Shaq although Amundson really did his best to clean up the garbage inside. Amare seems to be more of a slasher and spot up shooter. He dosesn't seem to like to get his nose dirty. I really felt the Suns were like butter inside defensively. Come to think of it they were like butter outside defensively as well.
