Presently Satisfied With Robin Lopez Pick AT #15 ?

Robin's brother dropped 31 points on 10-17 FG and 10-11FT, along with 13 boards and 2 blocks in just over 40 minutes. Additionally, he only had 2 fouls.

I watched Brook in a very early regular-season game and was struck by his footwork. A big man with an NBA body, reasonable athleticism, good footwork, and a solid work ethic is pretty much guaranteed to become good. Robin, of course, is weak, clumsy, and doesn't seem to care. That, uh, guarantees something else.

Brook was a pretty high pick. When we picked there was talent left but we chose size instead of talent. Not the wisest move, remember Frederic Weis? His career highlight was getting dunked on by Vince. I hope he isnt a complete waste. He's a big project and I don't have high hopes for him. I'm surprised we passed on Chalmers. He was more of a need than Robin IMO.

I understand why the suns didnt draft chalmers at #15, scouts said he wasnt that special athletically. Using hindsight, yeah the suns should have drafted him and kept skinner. I do reserve the right to use hindsight to question the suns talent evaluation. Yes they know more than I do in that area, but Im not getting paid $$$$ to do that job. There has to be consequences in bottom line performance for those job positions. Robin Lopez has turned out to be pretty much what everyone thought, average athleticism, no burn to overcome it, and an offensive skills defecit. Someday Robin may be a servicable backup, but now he is terrible.

You know I had sort of forgotten about Skinner until I had seen him. Man, I really think we could use him right now off the bench. Could you imagine whenver Shaq goes to the bench Skinner comes in to protect the paint? Man that would be nice.

I guess I wish he would "try too much" rebounding.

but when he comes with the weakside block he looks brilliant.

when he's late on that or late on his rotations,
usually his man ends up with a rebound and/or putback.

Marreese Speights, the player drafted right after Lopez, is now averaging 8.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in 16 minutes per game. In January, he is averaging 11.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.6 blocks per game in 20 minutes per game off the bench. He has seen increased minutes since Brand went down, and the 76ers have won 7 straight without Brand.

This is not "hindsight is 20/20" type of situation. A lot of people here and elsewhere questioned Lopez even before the pick was made. He was at the top of my list of "players we should definitely NOT draft". I've seen teams in past seasons reach for players like Robin Lopez with lottery and mid-first round picks, and I was always glad we weren't one of them. Now we are. It bothers me that our front office is so incompetent. It bothers me that they have publicity stated that had Robin Lopez not been available, they would have taken Dragic with that pick. It just bothers me. We could have really used a player like Speights right now.

Lopez is one of those players whose game does not at all translate into the nba. he may have been able to play decently in college, but that is because his biggest weapon, sadly enough, is size. obviously college players are not generally as big nor as athletic as nba players, and i think that is bothering lopez.

Lopez is going to be on every poster in the NBA. Getting dunked on has its fame as well.

Speights was definitely my preference over Lopez on draft night, he was so much more NBA ready and has decent size and speed where we could definitely play him alongside Amare at certain times.

Lopez is a stiff and will be traded about 5 times before his career is over then he will dissappear before our very eyes......you know...sort of like he does now when he picks up his 3rd foul in 5 minutes (while collecting 1 rebound).

His only hope is to get into the weight room and work his a$$ off in the summer.

I'm not willing to give up on Lopez just yet. He needs to develop strength and get a lot of playing time. Here is my thought process. If Robin were a starting center on a bad team this season, I bet he would start to show significant signs of development by the end of the season. Whether he can become as good as his brother, I'm not sure.
