Well everyone is signed and in camp.........that's the good news. The unfortunate part is that becuz of this, we will soon be making our first cuts. Let's opin on this.

OFFENSE:

With 13 WR's tripping over everyone's feet, this will be the area that we will see the first casualties come from. We, quite simply, need to get more reps with the WR's who will make the team......Johnson, Boldin, McAddeley and Gilmore. Who do we need another two weeks to look at further.......Walker, Foster, Kasper, Poole, Soliday. Who is therefore "on the bubble" and first to go.......my guess is Zeke Parker, Reggie Newhouse, Antoine Savage fit that bill (and any other WR that is in camp but doesn't come to immediate mind).

We'll soon have to make a shorter "short-list" in the backfield. Smith and Shipp are "locks". Anderson and Prentice will battle for the third RB position. Scobey will be a first group cut. Can Comella be far behind?

DEFENCE:

We are too "long in the tooth" with LB's and we'll have to cull this group down among the first cuts: Staying are Fisher, Thompson, McKinnon, Darling, Hayes, Gilbert. One of Woods and/or Faulk (and any others not mentioneed) will be gone soon.

Alton Moore and Nate Dwyer likely move out with the first cuts.

Not on the 1st cut, but there could be some bigger names than usual coming down the waiver wire via the Cards. McKinnon and Marquis Walker are a couple that wouldn't surprise me. Starks' name has also been brought up, but it would be almost impossible to part ways with him given the current collection of corners.
Everybody likes McKinnon but it sounds like James Darling fits the new scheme better at MLB. There are several teams that would be interested in McKinnon. Probably the same ones that expressed interest in Randal Godfrey (Green Bay, Jacksonville) before he signed with Seattle. San Diego may also have some interest.
It sounds like Walker is a little slow for Sullivan's system. It wouldn't surprise me if he left fairly early.

Brought up by whom?? Yeah, Mac has been bitchin' that Starks hasn't been on the field... How does this translate into Starks name has been brought up as a possible cut?

McKinnon will not be cut

No way. With Levar Fisher as tenuous as he is with his knee, I don't see any way Ron gets cut. There's still plenty in his tank.

no way ronnie mac is getting cut!

the guy was the heart of our defense last year. maybe if some of the young guys really step it up this year, then he might not be back for 2004. But I guarantee you he'll stay on the team his year.

McKinnon is my favorite player on the team right now. But, even I have to admit that there is a legit chance he gets cut. Fisher's sore knee has nothing to do with it, Ron isn't going to play OLB. If he can hold off Darling, we're better for it. But, if Darling beats him out, he'll probably go. He was always pulled out on third down last year, a sure sign that the coaching staff was starting to question his game.

If he loses his job, he'll probably be cut. Right now it's a pretty close race with Darling. The Cards also have a couple of young LBs who can play in the middle. Hayes is outside right now, but he could move back in should McKinnon be released. Now, the Cards could still keep McKinnon. They have the cap room, but often times a team will give a player of McKinnon's caliber a chance to start elsewhere rather than regulating them to a reserve job w/ the team. Levon Kirkland and Greg Biekert are recent examples.

As to Starks, had 2002 never happened I could buy the argument that the Cards weren't fed up w/ him to the point of moving on. But 2002 did happen and if this team had any quality depth at the CB position, Starks would already be out of town. As it stands they do not, so I wouldn't look for anything to happen this year. If he continues this pattern, however, he will not be back for 2004.

Jurecki hinted "off the record" that Starks was becoming a big area of concern to the coaching staff

If the two (Mac and Darling) are neck and neck to start, wouldn't you start the best one and keep the other as his back-up? If you release Mac if Darling wins the starting job, would you release Darling if Mac wins the job???

If you release Mac if Darling wins the starting job, would you release Darling if Mac wins the job???Absolutely not! I don't see either of these guys getting cut. I don't buy any of this--if Ronnie Mac doesn't start, he'll be cut stuff. This is a case where I think Mac's loyalty is indeed justified, even if Ronnie Mac has "lost a step". He's still a viable and valuable player to this team, in more ways than one.

Respect and loyalty could also lead the team to let McKinnon catch on with a contending club if they thought Darling was a better fit and if McKinnon's overwhelming desire was to be a starter. As I stated before, teams often do this for longtime players, instead of making them underutilized, disgruntled, insurance policies. Too early to say if this will happen w/ McKinnon, but the possibility definitely exists.

Well duh.

Why would you cut Mac?

Darling can play OLB if someone gets hurt.

Respect and loyalty my arse.....you keep Mac because he can contribute......if he gets less playin time....gets beat out.....and can't contribute....then ya cut him.

He stands by the side of the field just watching, I don't think he is real popular right now

I also highly doubt that Mac gets cut even if he does lose his job!

I have two words for you Frank Sanders! He is a Bidwill favorite and unless ronnie mac requests it I just dont see it happening!

We're probably passing judgement a bit too early on some of these guys.

I found it interesting that, after a pretty much universal observation by guys who went up to Flag - that Scobey looked the worst of the 3 backup RB's and was on the bubble - an article appears in today's AZR quoting Johnny Roland as saying how impressed he is about the way Scobey has improved.

Of course, "talk is cheap" and "actions speak louder than words" -but go figure.

I don't think that Ron McKinnon is going anywhere. He is a solid player and proven MLB. Even if he get's beat out of his spot he is the best backup option to have. If this team had salary cap problems then I think there would be a chance but it would not make sense to release him unless he asked for it and he has always seemed to like playing here and I have never heard of him say a cross word about this team, he has always been a stand up guy so as far as him getting cut I very much doubt it.

Player's getting cut.
From what I've been reading on here it sounds like these guy's are gone in the first round of cuts.
Offense- OG Teag Whiting, WR Zek Parker, RB Josh Scobey, Wr Jake Soliday and Kendrick Rogers.
Defense- DE Alton Moore, DT Nate Dwyer, LB's Mike Young and Charles Burton.
