I think this would be a nice counterbalance to the kickoff changes they made. I still don't like that they moved kickoffs up 5 yards but I don't see how making XP's longer is such a bad thing.

For those against it, why does the XP being virtually automatic make the game better than if the percentage dropped to the 85%-95% range?

Heck, if potential injuries are an issue just move it back to the 40 and use Pro-Bowl type rules for rushing the kicker. I certainly don't see any reason that teams should just be given additional points. There's all kinds of things that could be done. Make a TD worth 7 and leave it up to the offense if they want to try an "extra" point. But make extra points live so if the offense screws up, the defense has a chance to score points.

Or if the kick is short, there can be a return. Or a fumble or interception can be returned for a score.

I mean, there really isn't much purpose to XP's right now other than to lead into a commercial. It's a dead part of the game. TD is scored, then a review, often with a commercial, then the XP, which there is very little chance of missing, then a commercial, then the kickoff then a commercial. I think it would be an improvement if the XP was a 43 yard try. No one would assume the outcome and that would be good for the game IMO.
