If the Suns, for money reasons, could only keep one of either Q or Joe, and
assuming they would make similar salaries.. who do you think is more valuable to the Suns?

Have to go with JJ because he is versatile, however Q brings heart to the team.

Both are very important.

Ask me after the playoffs. If Johnson can come close to what he did in the regular season, it's him, but if he disappears again...

I'd also go with JJ right now. He's got a better all around game than Q even if he doesn't have the fire and intensity that Q brings. He's a better defender, a better outside shooter, a better at driving into the lane and getting easy baskets, a better ball handler & passer.

Q is a streaky shooter, but is a better rebounder & post-up threat. He also has a great attitude and gets his teammates fired up. He's fearless, but he can also shoot you out of a game when he's cold.

We have yet to see what either of these guys will do in the postseason, but I'd go with JJ in a heartbeat right now. JJ's better on both ends of the court. On defense he's much better.

Sorry, but this is a silly poll. Last summer I suspect that most people thought Q and JJ were about the same level. This is why paying JJ a lot more than Q was not being considered.

Now, I doubt even Q would question that JJ is worth a bigger contract.

I don't think it is silly at all. Like you said, people thought they were on the same level before the season. It is simply reasking impressions after a season. Like Eric said, it will be brought back up after the playoffs most likely.

While it won't happy this year hopefully, in the next few seasons one of them could easily go since they both play the same position primarily.

Also, right now Johnson has been on a hot streak and Richardson has been struggling. But they're both erratic. Ask the same question at various stages in the season, and you'll get different answers. As far as I'm concerned, Johnson is still in purgatory after the major gack job he pulled in Miami. He'll have to have a very solid postseason to get me back in his camp.

Joe Johnson has been as consistent as any shooting guard in the NBA this season. Like any perimeter player he will have an off night every so often. He is shooting 46% from the field and almost 48% from beyond the arc though. Meanwhile Q is shooting just 39% from the field and 36% three-pointers. If we are going to compare consistency Q isn't even in the same hemisphere. He is about as streaky as they get.

Don't get me wrong. I like Q, and what he does for the Phoenix Suns. I think JJ is clearly more valuable though.

It seems like it is a unanimous vote in favor of JJ. I bring up this question because we paid Q 6 years at $43.5 million. If Q is making 7.25mm a year, shouldn't JJ deserve at least 9, as he is clearly the more valuable piece? Also we are maxing out Amare after the season. That will give our starting 5 three max contract players, and ~15-17 mil for Q and JJ. How long will management be willing to have such a high payroll - and will we be able to afford a decent bench at any point?

Like I say everytime it comes up, it all depends on the new CBA. It is very possible that a team can only offer JJ 48million or so. While the yearly payroll starts high, the raises won't kill you 3 years later.

Joe - The problem with JJ is while he shoots great, he doesn't show up for every game. It might not even be all his fault. He is a nonselfish guard, where Q will jack up every shot he can.

The team really needs to involve JJ more often. They try to do it in spurts, but not nearly enough.

Basically I am saying his inconsistancy isn't in shooting like Richardson's is. It is in involvement.

Having two erratic players really fits this team. In the end, it's very rare for us to not have two players with good games.

JJ does play solid defense but Q has really stepped it up this season on the D side (he's got to lead the team in drawing charges).

Sorry Q, I voted for Joe.

Johnson's all around game is awesome to watch. I hope he is with the Suns a long time.

I think Q will come out big in the playoffs by his competitive and fearless nature alone. JJ is still quite inconsistent in mental toughness.

Tough, tough choice... We need both... Yea, I know, it's a copout... I'll go with Q by the slimest of margins. I really like what he can do in the post and his ability to get boards.

You hit right on the head graham. Joe's inconsistency come from lack of agressiveness/involvement. But when you're the 4th option there's going to be nights where you only get 10 shots or less.

I hope Q gets his streaky shots back before the playoffs. He has been shooting very poorly. Could be due to his injury.

I don't know. I think both of them are very important, although we may need JJ more than Q because if Q can't hit his shots, he can easily be replaced by Jim Jackson who CAN hit 3pts. JJ can play point which allows Nash to rest.

I picked JJ... sorry Q.

Everyone knows my answer.

JJ has played in 82 games in 3 straight seasons and averaged 40 min a game over the last 2. Odds are he will have an off night but he will never take a night off.

Q shoots only 35.8% from 3 point range, not very good for our 3 point specialist, I give him that title because he has jacked up 630 attempts. McCarty is shooting 35.1%, Barbosa 37%, Jim Jackson 41% and JJ 47%.
