USC QB Matt Barkley will NOT throw at this week's combine. He might run, but will not throw until USC Pro Day on March 27. More at ESPN. Com

Apparently his shoulder injury has not yet completely healed.

Why is he even bothering going to the combine. He's is wasting a spot for someone else. The NFL should just drop him and add someone who actually wants to perform there.

Until I see a lot more of him in action, all he'll be is some dude with a last name similar to Sam Bradford.

He's not cleared medically to throw until his pro day March 27.

Not trying to argue with any but he did come out with the following last week:

“This is probably the biggest test of my life coming up,” Barkley told the Pensacola News Journal. “This is like the SAT times thousands. I hear the whole couple days is a grind. But I am looking forward to that challenge. I am excited about it.”
Barkley says his shoulder injury has healed well enough that he can throw and will do everything at the Combine. Passing that test would go a long way toward erasing the disappointment of his senior season.

Perhaps, he just was a little premature on his recovery.

Eh, I have little faith in the medical clearance being dictated by anything other than what the agent think is best for his draft stock.

I hear ya, but it may be true. Here's what Ian Rapaport tweeted:

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
More background on Matt Barkley: He only started throwing at all in his rehab 7-10 days ago. Threw to moving targets last week. 90% now

I get your point; however, QBs do more than just throw at the combine. Barkley is in the Top 5 of QBs in this season's draft, so teams are going to want to interview him, test his aptitude, and see how he is athletically. This happens every season for many players.

That being said, I still think Barkley is a mediocre prospect.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Luck and RG3 opt not to throw at last year's combine? I know they are much higher rated prospects than Barkley, but the fact is that Barkley is one of the highest rated QBs in this draft and there is a lot more to the combine than throwing. Actually throwing at the combine isn't all that important considering they are throwing to receivers they aren't familiar with. As long as he throw's at his pro day than it really won't make a difference.

I would not draft him at one hundred and eleven.

Not in a Trade. Not with a Fade. I would not draft him here or there. I would not draft him anywhere. I would not draft that QB from USC.

I would not draft Matt Barkley. I would not absolutely. I would not indubitably.

That's pretty but I don't read Shakespeare. I don't want Barkley Because, after all, a bad quarterback's a bad quarterback, no matter how small.

Barkley has the right to throw, not throw or even not appear at all. But this distracts from the real issue - Can he or can't he play? To the extent that he hasn't proved to NFL scouts that he's a pro-caliber QB - his unwillingness (or in all fairness, inability) to throw at the Combine makes it more difficult for scouts to get fired up about him and stand up on the table to support him come Draft Day.
