I doubt if he makes it out of the second round. He may not make it out of the first round.

You're probably right but I'd much rather let someone else take this risk. Maybe he pans out but I don't like his chances. If he's still there in round 3, it might be worth a shot but I'd hate to see us waste a one or two on an unimpressive prospect with shoulder problems regardless of our dire need.

Agree. That "sprained" shoulder has been bugging him for quite some time now.

I would not draft him at one hundred and eleven.

Not in a Trade. Not with a Fade. I would not draft him here or there. I would not draft him anywhere. I would not draft that QB from USC.

:biglaugh:

I see what you did there.......
I agree. Let some other team take a chance on breaking the USC QB jinx.

Ya, Barkley stinks. I question his talent, skills and instincts.

Reasons not to fall in love with his stats;

1. PAC 12 can't spell defense let alone play it. ( but I love watching the games )
2. Surrounded by talent where the sum is greater than the parts
3. Terrible coaching
4. Short side of 6' 2"
5. PP Passer , not much escapability
6. Mediocre arm, when healthy
7. Seems to get the "deer in the headlights, happy feet thing too often.

Just doesn't add up to top 20 pick even if healthy. Dude has warts.

I like Matt Barkley. Wouldnt mind him being the pick if Arians and Kiem validate those feelings by picking him or trading up to get him later on in first round.

Think he went from overatted to underatted pretty damn quick.....

If he's available in the second or third round, I'd take him. He has the potential and with the right coaching I think he can turn out to be something special. All depends on what BA, Keim, and TM think about him.

Agree, just don't take him with our #7 pick.

I got suckered into the hype before this last season. I had never really thought too highly of Barkley and didn't understand why so many others did. And I basically root for USC to do well so there's no bias on my part in that regard.

At this point, I think of Barkley as the new Jimmy Clausen. Which isn't a good thing.

I think He's the best QB available at this point- Shucky Darns - Why do I always see something different than this board? i'm being the best lil Thesmel I can be - but what the hell are you all looking at?
I don't understand what you value?

Barkley immediately impressed with his leadership, demonstrating the confidence as a true freshman that normally was reserved for upperclassmen. He's steadily improved his numbers over his career, completing 60% of his passes in 2009 for 2,735 yards and 15 touchdowns (14 interceptions), 63% in 2010 for 2,791 yards and 26 touchdowns (12 interceptions) and 69% this past season for 3,528 yards, 39 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.

His understanding of the USC offense is greatly under-appreciated. While he's not quite Andrew Luck, when breaking down Barkley it is clear he does so many of the "little" things well, like rolling either to his left or right and consistently firing accurate passes on the move or freezing the safeties by looking one direction and passing the other..

39 TDS 7 INT's and a rating of 161.2 in a pro style offense? Yea why would the Cardinals consider a qB like that? When we can trade DRC and a 2nd rounder to andy Reid and pay out the WAZOO out of desperation- cause were stupid.

I like his leadership, I like his work ethic, I like his presence in the pocket and his ability to read the defense, I like the fact he's played in a pro style offense and I like the person. I just don't think he's a safe bet. He doesn't move particularly well and he's a bit undersized and that combination doesn't usually translate well to the NFL. Throw in an average arm when healthy and the fact he has shoulder problems and he's just too big of a risk at the 7th pick. I'll buy into the pick if Arians thinks he's the right guy but I just don't think that will happen.

Jimmy Clausen - 2009 - 161.4 rating as a junior.

Not to mention the weapons Barkley's had at USC. Those are skewed numbers for sure.

Yeah! Too bad Denny Green didn't do his homework on the last USC QB we drafted. :(

I was just watching the USC/UCLA game to watch DE Datone Jones, and man, Barkley was poor in that game. Makes you wonder what happened to his confidence or whether his arm had been bothering him (before the injury) and he wasn't telling anyone.

Don't discount how losing Matt Kalil effected (check me k9) him. Barkley is great when the pocket is clean which is the problem. The pocket is rarely clean in the NFL and Barkely tends to fold in these situations despite having great talent at USC. Pass.

UCLA was able to put pressure on Barkley. He's had the luxury of facing PAC-12 defenses, which collectively is the worst out of all of the BCS conferences, particularly in pass rushing. Barkley is not used to playing under pressure, so when he enters the NFL, he'll get a dose of reality.

USC QB Matt Barkley will NOT throw at this week's combine. He might run, but will not throw until USC Pro Day on March 27. More at ESPN. Com

Apparently his shoulder injury has not yet completely healed.

If his agent has been talking to the NFL GMs maybe he knows Barkley is likely to go early in the first round as it is and he only risk dropping down if he goes? Either way works.

Yeah! Too bad Denny Green didn't do his homework on the last USC QB we drafted. :(

I look at it like this. The last USC QB we drafted was supposed to be a prototypical size for an NFL QB and the most NFL ready of any QB to come out of college in a while and he was a bust.

So if we don't draft a USC QB who is not supposed to be the prototype size and not NFL ready he'll be All-Pro.

You know. Cardinal football.

:D
