Drew Stanton could join Bruce Arians with Cardinals

Free agent quarterback Drew Stanton had a whirlwind offseason in 2012, signing with the New York Jets in March only to be traded to the Indianapolis Colts a week later when Tim Tebow was acquired.

Stanton may have spent the season holding the clipboard behind rookie Andrew Luck, but he still managed to catch the eye of offensive coordinator Bruce Arians. According to the National Football Post, there are "some rumblings" that Stanton could follow Arians out west to the Arizona Cardinals.

While Stanton knows Arians' offense and possesses above-average athleticism, his passing technique and subsequent accuracy issues have left a lot to be desired. He's expected to have multiple suitors for a backup job, but Arizona could be his best chance at a legitimate competition for starter's reps.

Cardinals president Michael Bidwill is not ready to give up on Kevin Kolb, and Arians believes the oft-injured incumbent is "good enough" to start if given adequate pass protection. This will be Kolb's job to lose in training camp. Stanton could be there as an insurance policy if Kolb does end up losing it.

If it does, it wouldn't be the first time a new coach brought in someone from his old team "to help teach the system."

Then, again, the offensive coaching staff is already loaded with a bevy of guys who can teach the system with no need for Stanton.

Pretty much every new HC of all time brings in a player or two from their past regimes to help smooth the transition.

Already there's speculation that Mike Lombardi, new CEO in Cleveland likes Moyer---they are not high on trading for Ryan Mallett---interesting, seeing as Lombardi and Belichick are buddies and if Belichick thought Mallett could be the guy in Cleveland he would apprise Lombardi of that.

I prefer Moyer to Stanton as the #2 with a chance to compete for #1. Then again, i am very interested to see what BA and TM make of John Skelton. If they sour on Skelton, then I will know for sure that I was wrong all along.

I'm perfectly fine with signing him as a backup and with us that means he has a shot at starting.

I hope we can do more, but hey, we literally need three QB's. If we want lindley we can still stick him on the practice squad this year. I don't think he was on the active 46 for more than 8 games last year.
